05 Dakota. Air bag light comes in with no passenger, and burning oil
I just bought an 2005 Dakota for my husband from a lil used car lot. Of course it has a few problems, from previous owner lack of care. I took it to the dealership, I told them the airbag light is on when theor is no passenger, it was low on oil, 2 qts, once we put in the oil it started to smoke a little. We were reverse in the garage changing the coolant and washer fluid, and it smoked enough in the 10 min the cleaner said to run the truck that we had to wait outside for a good 30 min after we turned it off. The dealership kept if for 2 days, did the airbag recall, told me I have a bad valve cover, and charged me $116. The airbag light is still on, same symptoms, and a valve cover leak will not make the truck smoke blue smoke. To top it off as soon as I left the dealership it popped up a code P2097. One of the reasons is contaminated gas or contaminated heated 02. Would the burning oil set off this code? Does anyone know how to bypass the passanger airbag weigh sensor. I am hoping if I just make it so the passanger airbag never goes off, it will make the system work, but I don't know if it will work.
dealer recall on both air bags, make sure both were changed, as for blue smoke, bad valve guides or piston rings, you may have bought a bad truck and been had by dealer. depending on mileage, if its that low on oil might need a rebuild.
The passenger seat weight sensors probably need to be reinitialized. I had the similar issue after removing my front passenger seat. Read this thread (Post #21 explains exactly what I had going on) for my experience with the issue. Dealer is the remedy, and I'm surprised that the dealer did not look into it at all for you while you were there.
An advanced code reader is the only way to pull an SRS code to find the cause.
