After replacing rotors and pads I took the truck out to seat the break pads. Stops and starts, traveled maybe 2-3 km down the road. When I pulled into the driveway and got out, I noticed my driver side wheel bellowing smoke ... "I said lord Jesus, it's a fire, ain't nobody got time for that!" ~ Sue Brown. I'm thinking it's other a seized caliper or collapsed hydraulic line. I wasn't able to squeeze me head in or pull the tire off because it was dark and raining. Tomorrow I'll recreate the drive and take the wheel off. Just wondering what you peeps think or have had similar issue
One thing to note I had just replaced the front suspension ... Pretty much all of it and when I took the driver side caliper off, the existing pads were in pieces
one possibility; some rotors are surface coated with oil to prevent corrosion...did you brake clean off the oil...cause they will smoke after a good hard burnish if you don't.
Also, when bedding the brakes it can cause some excess heat as they are well bedding themselves. this, along with the rain that you say, could have just been water evaporating from that rotor. You should have been able to feel a stuck caliper. you truck would try and pull to that side when driving in a straight line.
I'm hoping my new power stop calipers (S5008) arrive tomorrow ... Also purchased 2 hydraulic hoses just to be sure ... However my luck it will prolly be a hard line from the block, they were looking kind of crusty.
