Yanno, there was a reason why the previous R/T Dakota was popular. It looked different, it rode different, and it performed different.

This new version Dakota is P.O.S. compared to it, least on the outside. It looks like nothing but a paint job and hood scoop to differentiate the Sport from the R/T.

How very sad....

They need to trim that front bumper down....make it flat with the grill...instead of standing out 6 inches...

Hold on there! What was so different about the previous R/T's ? The only real difference was the wheels, the muffler and the 5.9. Wow thats huge right? After 2001 you could get a 5.9 in any quad cab, and for 2004 you could get the same wheels as well. But they were chrome. This new at least looks different than a regular sport at least. Plus on the inside you get R/T gages, embossed headrests, and different doorpanels.

Joe
Yeah, they stopped making the R/T in 2003....not to mention you could ONLY get the 5.9L in a quad cab after 2001. The wheels you could get in 2004, but shoot.....the point was is that the truck predominantly didnt look like any other Dakota. When you saw the R/T, you knew it for what it was. The only difference on this one then a normal sport model is a hood scoop and crappy badging. And you know what? I've seen better looking 3rd gen's then that....and have a hood scoop.

The point I'm making, is that all the SRT-4,6,8 & 10 models stand out. The R/T used to stand out.....so WHY NOT this one? It looks like crap.

The old R/T used to have all the interior getup as well, not to mention the R/T emblem all over the truck and you got the flares on the R/T as well.

I mean, even a different set of rims, and maybe a set of flares, and hell, even a rendition of the old Stampede body kit might be an idea, but JUST slapping an R/T logo on the outside and giving it all the options already available to us thru an SLT or Sport model.....that's just not cutting it....sorry

This is an 05 Dak, 3rd Gen, from one of our members, baumble bee. It's got the SRT-10 wheels and the hoodscoop plus a fiberglass bed cover......I'd sooner call this an R/T then that crappy *** flaming banana...It at least stands out a lot better.....

I agree. The R/T from the 2nd gen was more unique from the other Daks vs the new one. My Laramie has those exact same wheels. They look good on my truck, and that's because its not a sporty truck... yet. The R/T is suppose to be about performance. This new one, it just doesn't spew out performance... it spews out Hybrid... a mix of two or three other trucks of the same breed. They need to do something different, like lower it a little, put on some nicer/sportier wheels. I like the hood scoop, but not the rest of it. Even change out that ugly R/T stripe and put on some badges similar to the old design.

When I look at the new R/T, I think of my truck. When I look at an older R/T, I think of WOW, nice R/T.

IMO

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. My point was the only exterior difference on the sec gen was wheels and the r/t graphic. Everything else on the outside was the same. Grill, flares, and bumper were the standard sport package. i had an 02 sport cc 2wd 4.7 5 speed. I ate several stock r/t's. I sure do miss that truck!

What's with the 4 doors? Loved my '99 R/T, but his thing looks like C---. Wife is still driving her 2000 R/T even though I just bought her a '05 Equinox AWD for winter commuting to work.

What mods did you have to beat stock R/T's?

IT wasnt unheard of that when they released the 4.7IN THE 2ND GEN, that it was known that some stock 2wd dakota 4.7 trucks were running quicker than the 5.9 R/T TRUCKS. at that time...i owned a 4wd shortbed standard cab 4.7 with a 5 speed and it ran pretty good...

As an R/T owner, I agree with you. The R/T is well known. When you see it, you recognize it by its stance, the color matching grilles and bumpers, its wheels, and its sound. It just says "R/T."

That Black truck there, with the SRT 10 wheels on it... now thats a nice truck. What someone needs to do is get an 06 Club Cab Dak, with the SRT 10 wheels, a different functional hood, and mod out the 4.7, then strap a supercharger on it, order some SRT 8 badges, and then send the pics and times to DODGE and tell them thats what it shoulda been.

The link to the 2006 Yellow R/T 4x4 on ebay.......that's just NOT what an R/T should look like

R/T stands for "Road & Track"

When does a 4x4 qualify as an R/T???? Especially one with chrome side steps!?!?!?

I agree....the old R/T's were a heck of a lot better. They definitely weren't the fastest in stock form, but they looked sweet as hell with the lowered stance and the 17's with wide tires on them and the painted bumpers/grille (I had a 2001 white CC R/T).

Slapping a cheesy decal on the bed, (literally) sticking a fake hood scoop on, putting lame decals on the cluster, and embroidering R/T on the seats is pretty pathetic....actually borderline "ricer".

The ONLY thing they did do right is put the 3.92 and limited slip in the R/T package!
