05 Dakota v8 164k on the dash had noticed that the driver front caliper was stuck. Changed that. But what led me to that was the fact there was a weird feeling upfront jacked up the front that’s when I noticed stuck caliper. Thought that might solve my issue BUT!

Only does this in certain scenarios accelerating onto the highway. It stumbles but goes. Seems to me like to trans is slipping or engine is missing just can’t quite put my finger on it. An when at the bottom of incline accelerating up it seems as if the trans is slipping rpms don’t quite dip down while it does it the maintain pretty well then it kinda sputters thru it maybe 4-5 seconds. An continues on just fine.
Now not my vehicle working on it for a friend. I currently have a 2nd gen ram that kinda does the same thing if I leave my overdrive on an attempt an incline at around 40-45 mph. Turn off the overdrive an rpms pick up an off I go. Not the case with this Dakota... it seems to run really good other than this random issue. Idles,rev,stops,goes. Just like any other vehicle I’m no certified mechanic but I feel pretty confident this is a transmission going out.

So so just like any other time I come across something odd with a vehicle I turn to the forum to help narrow down my possibilities since all these vehicles has the “quirks” an not being a Dakota guy myself. YES I took the easy route an asked for help. Thanks for reading. Help much appreciated

 

What engine/trans in the dak?

 

i believe you are feeling torque lock up, change the fluid and filters in trans and see if any of the bands needs adjusting, better to let the dealer do this.

 

your thinking a fluid,filter, and band adjustment might do the trick huh? I can tackle that if I can pull up the procedure In the manual. Unless it is more complicated than my 2nd gen ram 46re I’m sure I’ll be fine. I went an picked up the small in/lb wrench to do such job on 2nd gen. Input much appreciated.

4.7 not sure of the trans but decoding the vin gave me these codes for the trans that’s all I could find for trans info DG6, DGQ, DEJ....

 

Is the factory service manual available for this 05 Dakota on this forum? I found one for my ram an have had it saved for a long time Don’t quite remember how I got it thru the forum. I’ve looked thru the stickys an have tried a search but no luck.
