Install Fuel Check Valve
Hi everyone,
i’ve got a failed return valve on the fuel pump assembly of my 2006 Dakota CC 4.7 4x4.
its been causing hard starting for a while and the dealer has diagnosed it but quoting me huge $$
instead of replacing the whole fuel pump assembly, I’m hoping to install a simple check valve but I’m not sure if there are any areas where the fuel line is rubber hose where I can splice this in.
Any advice / suggestions?

cycle the key 4 x and let the fp run for a few seconds each time...then start it. this will prime the fuel system and it will start normally....and you spend nothing.
they don't use rubber anymore...its either plastic or steel. both can be sectioned in with compression unions designed for each material.

Thanks, yes I’ve been doing the pump cycling for a year but want to sell truck soon. I was hoping for a way to get a check valve into the line somewhere. This is the second pump with a failed return valve and I don’t want to throw another one in.
can anyone tell me what the fittings are called so maybe I can try to buy a short rubber section with the right fittings to splice in?

Looks like problem solved! There is a section of aluminum line along the frame rail which comes off with quick connectors to a 34” section with some bends. Pipe cutter a piece out, flare the ends and used some fuel hose to splice in the valve. Now she holds pressure and fires up faster than ever.
Funny, I thought the actual problem was pressurized fuel leaking back to the tank. Do you work as a mechanic at a dealership by chance?

I can understand that apprehension, but basically all I’ve done is add another check valve downstream from the broken one. See, the Chrysler engineers, being so clever, decided to make a fuel pump “assembly” which combines the pump, filter, float, check valve all in one, but their check valve is obviously ****, because two have failed for me. Why play their game and replace all the expensive parts, that still work fine, just because the cheapest component fails?
he is right, your fix is a band aid. there is a reason they don't use hose clamps on fuel or cooling systems....they loosen and leak. Not just fca...every auto manufacturer...they don't want to get sued.
