Yet another set of brake calipers

The entire rear brake setup was still factory original from 2004. I could tell because the rear drums were pretty beat and the internal guts still had the factory pen markings on the springs and nuts where it was all assembled and marked. They were not completely shot but since the fluid was bad I didnt want to risk having an issue down the road with the rear cylinders, so I swapped out everything. To my surprise everything came off pretty easy, no rust or seized bolts, just a real thick layer of caked on break dust. I am very happy with the Wager e-coat rotors and drums so far, very nice and very well made.

Does anyone else find the Dodge caliper pad clips to be a poor design? I am paranoid now about pads resting on the rotors and I feel like the abutment clips are very difficult to get in place without bending them out of the stock position. Anyway, just wanted to vent to my fellow Dakota owners about my seemingly nonstop front brake issues. So far I have installed new brake lines, new calipers, new pads, new rotors. This time it will be all new DOT3 fluid, calipers, pads, and rotors. Lets hope I can get 50k miles out of this install.
It could be your Brake Booster or Proportioning valve.

15 years out of a set of brakes isn't bad.

Rear-Cylinders (ACDelco), Drums (Wagner Coated), Shoes (Monroe), Spring Kit, Self Adjustment Kit

Did a full brake fluid change (Valvoline Synthetic Dot 3) as well and a proper brake bleed in correct order.

Lets hope this lasts for at least a year this time.
Resurrecting an old thread...how did your brake job work out? The calipers, rotors, and pads work out well?

i have since sold the truck but everything was still working very nicely. i have even stayed in touch with the new owner who says everything is still working great. seems like i just got unlucky with a caliper to two.

awesome! Good to know. I'm replacing my front pads right now, but this looks like a great reference should I need to replace everything. Thanks.
