Installed wireless backup camera buuuut. 05 dakota slt
Hey all, Had a day off and not able to do much with the current covid19 state here in Ontario Canada, figured id install the Joying head unit that I had sitting in a box for about 6 months now. Also had a wireless backup camera to go with it. All is installed however I am struggling to find the White/Green tracer wire (or at least its White/Green at the bulb) inside the cab to tap into. Has anyone installed a backup camera into their truck and done the splice trick? I read that some canbus adapters do a reverse trigger wire, however my PAC does not.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It does, I have everything working at the rear of the truck. I've tapped into the reverse wire at the tail light plug. However Ive been looking and can't locate this wire inside the cab. I'm now suspecting it doesn't come into the cab and may just end up running a wire from the tail light plug into the cab.
Hah okay think there's some confusion. Yes my head unit has the 12v reverse trigger wire. My camera system is wireless, so it wiresly transmits the signal video signal making it so running a new RCA video wire from the headunit to the rear tail light wasn't needed. So what im looking for is the factory wire that runs to the rear tail lights. My guess it doesn't enter the cab, and that it comes off the transmission somewhere.
Edit
I'll take the steering column apart and see if there is a trigger wire at the shifter, hopefully there is. Otherwise I'll have to track down the wire at the IPM

The White/Light Green wire should be in the cluster of wires that runs down along the drivers side, as seen in the picture below. Thats the Parking Brake pedal in the upper right of the picture. Otherwise, the same colored wire runs up the 'A' pillar to the overhead console.

Hmm I did check that loom and didn't see it in there, I'll have to recheck and see this weekend.

I'm in the middle of the same install. Did you splice into the wire as it leaves the fuse panel? The white/ Light Green? I haven't able to see what wire it was leaving the fuse location (61 if I'm remembering correctly)
That's correct, I actually didn't splice. I'm not a fan of cutting into wires that are exposed to the element.
So what I did was, I ran a wire out the shifter cable boot in the firewall, which exits right under the brake booster under the hood. Disconnected the battery and lifted the fuse block up, disconnected the wiring harness under fuse 61(95% certain yours correct on that one) then took my wire, stripped it, soldered it and then ran it up beside the white\green tracer wire in the plug, then ziptied this wire to the wiring loom of the plug so it wouldn't move. This way I'm not exposing the factory wire as the soldered tip wedges next to the factory connector in the plug.
Hopefully that makes sense.
