single chime upon startup

Have you tried this yet? Don't worry if you don't see the oil change indicator. Just try it to rule it out. Takes five seconds.

No I have not and yes I really need to try this. Been meaning to, will do and report back...

Edit: I did it and the extra chime went away! Looks like the mystery is solved - Thank you!
