Hi I'm new to the forums. I just recently bought a 2005 dodge Dakota slt. It's the 4 door with the 4.7 magnum and has a 165k miles. It also has something I never knew dakotas did which is an awd transmission. Truck runs great with no issues and doesn't have much rust either. But there is one issue I'm wondering if someone might have some insight on. It has awd, 4lock, and 4hi or 4lo(i can't remember which offhand) when I switch from awd to 4lock it flashes the light and says svc 4wd on the dash. I hear no noises from under the truck at all. When I go from awd to 4lo or 4hi it just flashes non stop and doesn't do anything at all. Any help or insight at all would be great.

Welcome to DF! Sounds like the shift solenoid. You are not the first with this issue.

Thank you for moving to the right area for me. And I will definitely check out the shift solenoid first.

Conrats and Welcome Aboard.

Hopefully you know this already, but do not use 4 Lock, 4Hi, or 4 Lo on dry surfaces. And going to 4 Lo is a very specifc procedure, read the owners manual if necessary.

You can download the 2005 Dodge Dakota Factory Service Manual below click the link above my picture below. It's free.
