factory r/t hood scoop alternative....
heres the link......
scoop
im waiting for the air grabber hood to be released but, i noticed that the black quad cab with srt 10 wheels had a scoop similar to the r/t one...so i did a search and i believe this is what they used....as for the factory scoop (which is not functional) it will be around 300 to 400 dollars according to the parts department....this might be a cheaper alternative for some....

Yeah I think you're right....
$300 or 400 for the Mopar one isn't worth it.....geez.....that's almost the price of an aftermarket hood!
I saw an '06 R/T at the Auto Show yesterday and the scoop is just TOO big for the Dakota hood anyways. It totally consumes the stock hood.
I think the smaller one you linked to would look better.

I haven’t seen an R/T hood scoop up close, but I think the Linked scoops look kinda cheap. Maybe it's the lip around them that I don't like. Maybe they could have curved the lip under instead of out and made it flush with the hood. Just my opinion.

The Mopar scoop doesn't have that great of a fit either though
It's just another generic scoop that'll stick onto the hood. It's not custom fitted for the Dakota or anything.
Like someone else mentioned...I think it's the same one that came on the Rams

The scoop you are going to install will be functional right? I know they look cool and all but never could understand a non functional scoop. One would think the extra cool air in the engine compartment would be a plus. The again I aint no motorhead. Just curious.

No the R/T scoop from Mopar just sticks on the hood (peel & stick).....it's non-functional
If it was functional....well you'd have to cut a hole in the hood to use it.
But you're right....a functional hood scoop would be better & provide cooler air, but no one makes one for the Dakota yet. And it would have to be a WHOLE replacement hood, which is $$$$.
Just the "Shaker" style hood is available I believe (like on the 2004 Mach 1 Mustangs)

Could one locate a proper looking scoop. Take too a good body shop. Have them cut the opening in the hood. And mount the scoop with something other than double sided tape. And still be cost efficient? Relatively speaking that is.

Well there really isn't such a thing as an "add-on functional scoop"......since that would require cutting a hole in the hood and making it fit and what not. And that's not something you can just do in your backyard and make it look good still....meaning attaching it and molding it and painting it and such.
The hood usually has it built into it already.
Basically these hood scoops are just/only for looks.
If you want a functional one....you gotta buy a whole hood & that's more $$$$

If you go to Sun Coast Creations, you can have one made. The only thing is, they don't have the Gen III hoods yet.
I would rather have the functional hood too. You can have it hooked up directly to your CAI which will give you more power, or you can have it blowing on your engine to keep the temp cooler. Either way, it's better for your engine.
