Any Ideas?
Could be that your rotors are warped, brakes are bad, combination of the two. Changing wheel sizes like you did.....can actually fry the old rotors/brakes fairly quickly.
I'd check those two items out first.....

Very important tighten lug nuts to manufactures specs so rotors don't warp.

Definitely know the torque specs on your lugs and if necessary, keep a torque wrench handy...
ORIGINAL: tasmanohio. You think that the warr. would cover that? Truck only has 120 miles on it
But the first thing I thought of was the rotors. We ran into that a few times here. Loosen the lug nuts and retighten with a torque wrench to 95 ft. lbs. Should come out of it...if not use a dial indicator to measure the runout of the rotors for warpage.
So i took off the front wheels and retorqued them. Same problem but not as bad. I am going to have to put factory wheels back on and set an apt. with dealer for new rotors.

If you check some of the formal complaints for the new Dakotas, there is a known random problem about shuddering when breaking, it has thrown engineers for a loop. I have only seen one person say that their deler got it fixed by replacing the axle and brakes. My Dakota has a very slight one, but not worth bothering with.
I said this in a different post for a guy that put 22's on his truck.....
Do you not understand that the new wheels weigh A LOT more than the stock wheels?? It's all about rotating mass & the new wheels are gonna eat up your brakes.
When you put bigger wheels on a car/truck, you need to have good brakes to slow all that moving weight down. The Dakota's brakes suck already (really bad) & putting bigger wheels on is just gonna make them worse.
So while you already spent $1,000-2,000 on the wheels/tires so your truck might look cool parked.......it's gonna slow you down, give you worse gas mileage, & hurt you in the wallet when you have to keep replacing the brakes
Doesn't seem worth it to me, but whatever floats your boat
Brakes aren't covered under the full factory warranty either....it's only the first year/12,000 miles (I believe)
