Catalytic Convertors?
Anyone know what our cats are? Like I got under the truck today, and I would guess it to be a 1.5" in and out. Also, do they have one O2 bung, two bungs or none? I am on my way to the lower peninsula of Michigan this weekend, and would like to do the whole thing at once. :-) Any help is appreciated. :-)
1.5" piping? That's a 4cyl piping diameter [&:] It's probably at least 2" pipe....more likely 2.5"
And what do you mean by how many bungs do they have? I've never seen a bung in a converter. There is most certainly one AFTER each converter though (not sure how many converters the Dakotas have).

when i installed my cat back i dropped the third cat because it does nothing. other two cats had one sensor in each. coming out of the cat its 2.5 from exhaust its 2.0 inch.thats why they dont recommend headers for our trucks. cant handle the heat or the input. will burn up cats sooner than expected
I believe there are only 2 cats, the other are resonators (sp?). The 2 cats are right off the exhaust manifold. I was wondering how you would fit headers between the cats and engine. Gibson has them,but since I'm not planning on building huge power I dont think I will do headers, unless I find a nice supercharger and they are required. I get my cat back installed on wednesday...hope I dont regret it.

I'm betting there aren't 2 resonators on the truck. One of them is most likely a converter. Chrysler started doing this on their cars and trucks the past few years. Our '01 Intrepid has 3 converters. 2 right up off the manifolds (one for each bank) and then a 3rd down after the Y pipe. I know the later model V10s also had 3 converters [:'(]
Fitting headers wouldn't be hard. Just move the converters back in the exhaust and get an extension harness for each o2 sensor.
I'm guessing the converters have a flange on one end that bolts to the manis. I don't know exactly what they look like, but you could probably cut that and run a pipe into them instead. If not, there's always hi-flow replacements

Question though, if I replace my cats with new ones, and they have the o2 sensor, will it through any codes? Also, will a reputable shop be able to do this? Cuz the Midas I went to, said they can't mess around with the stock convertors. Why is this? If I replace them, I should be fine shouldn't I?

It is a violation of Federal law to tamper with, or replace perfectly functioning convertors. That is why Midas wouldn't do it. if you really want to do that do it yourself or get a friend that does exhaust on the side. Pretty much hard pressed to find a liscened shop that will. find a way to burn the cats out to get a code so they have to be replaced
