If you want a offroader stick with 07-2006 wrangler otherwise forget it. Kj wouldnt offroad neither will a wj. If you want to play in the mud then any 4x4 will work even a kia sportage.

a stock JK wont offroad well either... unless I spend more fro the Rubi. plus then, there is no room to put the toys... I can fit a snowmobile in the back of a dak, I doubt I could in the new wrangler

and classing a kia sportage with a kj and wj is just plain ignorant... have you driven any of those vechiles?

sstreckfuss, the sammi is alright, the diesel that is in it really makes a difference, we also had a tracker we used to bomb around in... that was a POS though I am more of a Jeep kinda guy, but with my kinda budget, I cant get something like that yet, Ill have to wait til Im out of college..

You could always swap in a Solid Front axle, fabricate a custon suspension, put in selectable lockers, perhaps a low range transfer case, and voila the Dak becomes an offroad Monster!

Probably cheaper to buy an old full size AMC jeep beater pickup and be done with it.

a SFA swap into a dakota, isnt quite a easy an a bolt on.... only a handful of people have sucessfully done it.

all I need now is a reliable daily driver

maybe you didnt read the post, or understand it fully.... I will not be hardcore offroading w/ a stock vechile.. All I want is to be able to hit a few trails and not get stuck.. I had a few bad situations with my 06 Durango just trying to get to my cabin from the road during the winter
and my Jeep hasnt been the best either for what I need

The primary reason for the truck would be to go to Silver Lake and just be there for when we are done riding the real fun machines(quads and dirtbikes)

I know the "basic skills of offroading" Ive been doing it since I was 13(Im 20 now)... I was a mechanic at a local shop last year..

But besides that, it is nice to see some more real offroaders here, what do you wheel? Currently up at my uncles shop, we've been messin around with a diesel sammy w/lockers, 2in body, and huge susp. lift, I think it now has 35in swampers... but mostly I stick to quads
The wrangler (AKA "the Jeep") IMO is the only vehical with a true hardcore 4 wheel drive system. Their is a good reason the army valued this machines years ago. Jeeps have crappy electrical systems but they can move ya through crappy travel conditions and they are priced better than an H1.

If your only goin through a lil mud or 2 foot of snow the Dak should be able to keep you movin.
