front 2" leveling kit

pretty sure my 05 Dak 4wd has front springs......either than or something is really bent up in the front end suspension area......kinda like a spring.................go figure
from http://www.automotive.com review of the Dakota 2005
Underneath, there is a completely new frame shared in part with the Durango SUV, a frame that is eight times as strong in twist resistance and twice as strong in bending resistance as the old frame, introduced in 1997. A new coil-over-shock independent front suspension is used on both two- and four-wheel-drive models, with conventional leaf springs at the rear. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed.

I have that same kit installed, and I cannot see the spacers like you can with your picture, there tucked up and away, and dont stick out like that. I dont get it. Why are yours thicker?
Hey monkeywrench,
Did you use the bolts that came in your kit? I just recieved my trailmaster kit today and I called Trailmaster and they sent the wrong directions. It had the old directions and bolt kit to mount the spacer above the shock which was discontinued by them, The new instructions (downloadable from thier website) show the only items shipped are the actual spacers and instrictions show they are mounted above the spring preloading it rather than spacing the whole assembly down(no bolts neccessary).
Knowing this all of you guys may want to check yours as they discontinued the previous style due to brakeage.
Thanks,
LB

Your right about the two different instructions. When I ordered mine, i had already downloaded the instructions from the website and read up on the installation. So to my surprise when i got my kit in the mail it had bolts with it, i was a little confused. So I called them and they confirmed that there is no need for the bolts, and i indeed had older instructions. So the way you see mine, are the way it should look after the install ( i hope[&:]).
Oh i see. Yeah the shop that installed the kit definately used the new bolts, I cant ever see the plate, I can only feel for it and if I get way under I can see it up there. Its not there fault I gave them the old instructions and the bolts in the box when I went it cause I didnt know. Well hopefully they wont bust, because I'm not dealing with switchin it all around. Good Luck to me!
Hey white26golf and other with the trailmaster kit installed preloading the spring;
I got mine installed today, the installer (not the sharpest knife in the drawer) could not get the locknut off of the top (he had it smoking with his impact wrench because the shaft was spinning!) then he takes a wrench to the nut and channel-locks to the shaft and proceeds to round it (the shaft) smooth then small vicegrips then big vice grips etc until he finally get it off. The second shock he realized he could put a wrench on it and it went OK.
Anyway after all is done when driving home light bumps are OK, driveways to business and bumps at speed sound like the front end is going to fall off (clunking, grinding and groaning like the springs are binding) ANYONE else experience any of this?
First I think he did not get the nuts tight enough (especially on the stripped shaft) and second he dropped both shocks several times and I wonder if the seat rings did not fall off of the shaft.
Question; if you grab the tire and wheel and rock somewhat compressing the suspension, can you see the top of the shock shaft move up and down slightly? Mine does hence the worry about the seat ring which should prevent this.
I would put new strutsif they made them.
Sorry for the length, but ranting and need your opinion/advise.
Thanks,
LB

i ve got the kit and of coarse thre springs or the round spacers wouldnt work they sit up in the top of the spring pearch 1 inch thick =2 inches of lift cause it changes the geometry of the suspension

I also have an email in to Trailmaster as my kit was the one that mounted on top with the longer replacement bolts, later discontinued. Thanks for the info on that guys! Waiting for their recommendation of wether I can use the same spacer and follow the new instructions or what...
Well today was suppose to be the day to order my Trailmaster kit but might hold on to see if review are good or bad...
How would you rate your purchase... I taught the look was awesome but the product, is it reliable?
