Sorry to here it YFZman. As you can see VERY few will try to help. Each has to put in their smart as$ remark. Wish you the best getting stuck with a lemon. It a dam shame this bored isn't like a biker board. When someone has a problem, the REAL mechanics come up with a solution. Sorry, we don't have any. Hell, half of them are still trying to figure out if they own a quad cab or a crew cab!! Good luck!

This is the advice you give?

buy a small economy car. Dodge trucks arent exactly known for having good mileage.

Boards are for helping other members I thought.
We live in the day of electronic fuel injection. The amount of fuel injected into each cylinder is (essentially) computer-controlled.
We'd love to be able to say "turn this screw this way" or "adjust this" but, because of the above fact, we can't.
Differant trucks have differant personalities just like *wow* dirt bikes. A little FYI, we do try to help each other out on this forum.
Anyways, I hope they find the reason for the poor mileage (remember though, its the EPA that provides the estimated mileage as 2coff said).

General reply not to anyone in particular.
In business consistency is paramount. The DC Dodge product especially the G3 Dakota is far from consistent in product integrity. You expect and trust that for your sizable investment you will have a consistently well made product. If not then you expect complete, courteous, expedient and professional support for all and any inconstancies. Yet they failed consistently in many categories. Until you’re a victim of your hard earned cash gone to a company for a product that doesn’t deserve that hard earned cash then you will not understand what a quite a few of us feel every time we turn the key. Trash or kid around about discontented customers who vent their frustrations but when it is you, you will feel totally burned and betrayed.

theYFZman, what is your typical drive like everyday? Mine is 35 miles each way, 65-75 MPH, about 40 minutes long. I avg 17 MPG per tank per the computer and manual calcs. I also see the mileage drop dramatically though on the weekends when I do a lot more stop and go driving.

I'm back graythang said it best until you have a problem and you think that your just gonna go get it taken care of no questions asked you eventually will hit a rough spot in the road so to speak
Imy driving style varys so I really can't give you a specific style I do know that it really does not matter if I run just around town or on the highway the mpg is the same.
I have taken it to 3 yes three different dealers and all gave me the same **** well that is how the truck is designed to run I say bull**** I have worked on cars as my primary job for 6 six years I so hate when they think you have no friggin clue what your talking about perfect example the last srvice manager told me I had an allwheel drive v6 dakota hhhmmm I have driven it for 4 months now and I see a **** hicky-ma-bob on my dash to select the drive option and I did my oil change and it is the strangest looking v6 with two extra thingies that go up and down inside the motor must be spare pistons, 10 minutes I argued with him till he had to look himself punk-***
Anyway enough venting Here may be some good news, I called the dealer where I bought it they sell toyota to I know the sales manager for that dept. I am meeting with them tomorrow AM to see if we can't work a deal for a tacoma and they take my heap see what happens
call me a TRADER if you like but sometimes and only rarely would I consider this
I'll keep ya posted

YFZ off hand do you know what gear ratio is in your trucks diffs?

I get 13-15/combined on a 3.9 2wd. My old 92GMC Sonoma 4.3L 4x4 got better IN 4wd than my current dakota does in 2wd.

theres pretty much the cause of your mileage issue. My dakota has 3.55. My sonoma came with 3.08. Changing to a something closer to 3.23 may be something you want to look into. As for the dealers telling you you have an awd v6, your trucks vin may had been entered into DCX's computer system wrong.
