Default HELP

Help. I have a 2005 Dakota. Since it was new the Air bag light comes on whenever it feels like it. I've taken it in 8 times. They just calibrate the passenger seat but then bam...it goes off again...sometimes a week later...sometimes not for months. If anyone knows of another reason for this please help. I'm getting tired of taking it in and am worried that once my warranty runs out they will start charging me eventhough it has been happening since the beginning. They already charged me to loosen my seat covers...lol.

I also have the problem of my truck not starting sometimes...it's like it doesn't get power, I'll try it a couple times then it will work. It hasn't happened for some time but they won't even take a look until it does. I am getting close to the end of my warranty...Any suggestions on what to do.

Thanks.

hrmm, this is a hard one.

I don't know if I'd worry about the Air Bag light issue, I mean, it prollyl could get annoying, but the not starting thing, THAT'S an issue.

You know you have a 7/70 on the powertrain, right? And you are already approaching 36K on the bumper to bumper already? That's some good driving!

Morning missviolet,
Take it back and tell them to check the instrument cluster. I had that same problem w/the airbag light. It was a bad solder joint in one of the cluster harnesses and they replaced the cluster. No problems since. I was told the system is safe it's just the light thing is annoying.
Hope this helps.

I would raise hell about the air bag. That is a safety item and if they are willing to chance the liabilty of that thing blowing in someones face or not going of in the event of an accident, that pretty ballsy. I would demand that it gets fixed. ON another note, if the trunk won;t start-not an issue [8D]

Good luck

I had the no start sometimes too. Its caused by the Powertrain Control Module, or PCM. They should replace it for free, because there is a bulletin on it. Every once and a while, the PCM fails to send the signal to start the starter on the truck when you turn the key. (seems like you have no power, BUT everything on the dash functions) I had it fixed in about 2 hours after they ordered the part. This problem is widely known.

I had the same issue with my Airbag light (above the radio). If it does come on, drive it right to the dealership, do NOT turn off the truck, have them come out and pull the codes. The cluster drops "offline", it can't communicate w/ the computer (the data link goes down). Had it back to the dealer 5 or 6 times since they couldn't reproduce it. Finally they replaced the cluster for the airbag. The clusters were redesigned because the orig were crap. FYI, If they don't read & follow the instructions for the new cluster it will also appear to be hosed. Found this out after they ordered a 2nd new cluster because the 1st replacement was "broken". If the dealer won't replace the cluster, take it and all of your invoices of the work they've done to another dealer, talk to the service manager. If he balks at replacing the part, go over his head. Hope this helps you.

I have a similar problem with my airbag light coming on. I took it to the dealer and the response I got was that it was because I replaced the factory stereo with an aftermarket. They said that Dodge was not planning on releasing new codes to fix the problem and the only way to get the AirBag light to stay off was to replace the factory stereo. This was almost a year ago. Has anyone heard anything else on this?

So this cluster harness problem that causes the airbag light to go on doesn't actually cause the air bag to malfunction, or does it? I've had this happen to my '05 3 times in the past two years. I get the light to go out with a PCM reset. Disconnect neg. cable at the battery, turn ignition to start position and hold for 20 sec. and then reconnect neg. cable, air bag light is out.
