Default 2nd Vs 3rd Gens

I was wondering if I should buy a 3rd Gen Dakota, or a 2nd Gen Dakota. Right now I've got a 2000 Dakota 4x2, and I absolutly love it especially with the 5MT and 4.7l V8. Anyhow, I was wondering if they still make a new Dakota with the V8 Quad Cab, 4x4, with a 5 speed Manual transmission? I went on Dodge's website and I noticed that the 2006 model years could come with a 5MT with the V8. However, the 2007's only come with a V6 with the manual. The V8's in the 2007s are only mated to automatics?! I was also wondering if I can do insane burnouts with the new Dakotas with the Automatic? I noticed that the gear ratios are weird 8.25?! I've got a 3.92 on my Dakota... I'm like totally confused as to what Dodge did to their truck... and what happened to the R/T?!

I want a 2003 or 2004 Dakota with a V8, 4x4, Quad Cab, and 5MT... I love manuals... I've always had problems with autos in the past... never a problem with a manual.

simply put no....cant do "insane" burnouts with the 06 dak, I can squeel them pretty good with my V8 auto, but I'm sure popping the clutch on an MT could do a better burnout, but that is completly dumb to do to a vehicle and so not impressive. Leave the burnouts to the old hemi cudas or 6pack 440 cars.

golly gee, my 05 4.7 auto smokes the hell out of the rear tires. i have the corporate rear with the 3.55. there is so much more you can do with the gen 2 rigs compared to the gen 3. as far as motors, there is limited stuff avaliable for them, as for the 5.2/5.9 the aftermarket parts are endless for motor .

Well, I've done it with my 2000 Dakota... it's fun... and with the right tires, insane. I've only done it twice, but it was totally awesome. I've seen burnout videos of R/Ts and it is nearly as good. Granted I've got the V8 regular cab with the 5 speed and the 3.92 diff, it really puts the engine in those back wheels. It's not like I'm going to burnout everyday... that's just stupid, heck, I've only done it twice with my Dakota... and I probably won't do it again until the tires go bald again. However, I just want something that could decently smoke some tires just for showing off. I sort of want the Dakota R/T Quad Cab, but I don't want the Auto... I can't get a Mustang because I need a truck for carrying junk. I've got a SUV now, and it just stinks... I don't know how anyone can drive a SUV nor an automatic and be happy, but that's just me. lol

I just want a show off and yet a practical vehicle. A Mustang wouldn't cut it for what I do... not only that but the Dakota's HP for towing is excellent for what I tow. And the fact that I need 4x4.

I have a 6spd manual with a v8. Only available late 05's and 06 models.

Only thing is, mad wheel hop when doing burnouts. Even with the really sticky Grabber UHP's... I wonder how I can fix that.

Why don't you save urself a thousand and some dollars, and just get a Dakota Quad Cab SLT with SportsPackage, instead of the pointless R/T package, which is just the H.O. motor and some "stickers and embroidery"

I have noticed the guys with Gen3's talk about a lot of wheel hop, is that related to the suspension or tires or both.........my 04 and my 03 smoke the tires and never have i had the rear wheels hop but then again they were/are Gen2's 03/ClubCab and 04QuadCab.....I have only had auto's with no problems....but that is just a personal pref. I don't like having to shift gears....to many other things to play with while driving hehe

cams and stuff really help out, but when i first drove the truck off the lot i spun the tires down the street. the motor was strong, now its even stronger. i am looking into tranny upgrades soon. dont know how long it will last with the hard launches i have been dooing

I think the tranny are tough, wonder is there is a shift kit for them. I had a shift kit in my 67 coronet, I got tired of the slamming gears but breaking the tires loose in ever gear was fun tho (440cid).
