Default Trailer hitch wiring

Anyone install the Mopar trailer wiring harness? The directions that come with the kit suck. I thought for $169 it would look a little easier to install. Any do's or don'ts. thanks

i did mine with the mopar kit...for starters its not easy...unless you have a fair knowledge of how to rewire things and an understanding of how the fusebox sits I'd say dont even attempt it.
Once you have to get that module from the underbelly of the truck (which that process alone either requires some hard work on your back or hopefully you know a guy with a lift) up to the fusebox your nightmare has just begun. Snaking that module up through there while also tapping into various electrical lines makes it defiantely you want a good 1-2 hours to have + probobly 3-4 more to get pissed, go back in the house, look at the directions again, and go back outside only to give up 8 hours later and take it back to the dealer and pay them the $50-$75 to install it for ya.
Really if i were you I'd just take it to the dealer and let them install it...they will have the proper tools, the lift, and the frustration factor alone is worth paying someone else to go through it.

I installed my own too, most of the way anyway The instructions definately suck, there's nothing written really, just a lot of not very good illustrations. I got all the way thru it in 1 1/2 hour or so though (truck was up on jackstands & my floorjack). I ended up with 1 extra wire, & the instructions were unbelievably vague about where it went. I called the accessories department where I bought the truck & harness, talked to the guy I bought it from. It was frustrating, he knew exactly what wire it was & where it went but he couldn't tell me for liability reasons! Once I figured out how to play the game-ask questions, he could answer yes or no- I'm not making this up I got it kinda figured out. Anyway the wire was for trailer brakes, which I decided not to worry about unless someday I do find myself pulling that heavy of a trailer.

Looks like I will be calling my sevice dept. Sounds like the headache is not worth $50. You have to wonder what DC was thinking.

Geez...I thought I saw under the rear bumper a 4-pin style trailer harness already tucked under there from the factory. I had UHaul install a real hitch for me right after purchase, but I swear I had seen a harness already there for use with a ball on the bumper. I would think that to wire in a new hitch with the new "round" wiring socket you would simply plug that newsocket's harness into the already there 4 pin one from the factory. No?

The tow pkg came w/2 wiring harness's a 4& a 7 pin.Im sure you could a plug a aftermarket 7 pin into the four pin w/ an adaptor but you won't have the same results as a true 7 pin connector.Example brakes, back up lights & AUX power.

most adapters you buy to make a 4 pi into a 7 pin have the wires that you hook up to make those options work. that is what I am going to do sence my truck didnt come with the tow package.
