Default Customized CAI

I went to a speed shop today. I wanted to find out if they have pipe bending machines, and sure enough, they do. So, I have three choices for creating a new CAI. One would be to buy the twin, have both sides bend around and away from the manifolds to get the cold air.

The second choice would be to take and make a single tube and branch it into a two tubes with two filters.

The third choice would be to do it like they do to the Ricers, and put it through the side of the truck through the wheel well. I'll be using alum tubes for the colder air, which of course is way better.

The problem with the first choice is, not a whole lot of room to work with. I would have to relocate the battery somewhere else on the truck

The problem with the second choice is it would be about $400. I'd get a higher volume air going in.

The problem with the third choice is they would probably have to have the hole relocated else where instead of the factory whole and I would probably have to clean the filter more, even though that's only what, $10? But, I would have a continous amount of cold air coming in.

What do you guys think?

Remeber when you pick up volume, you lose velocity which means less torque. Which is a better insulator? Plastic or metal. Plastic is a better insulator.

It isn't a CAI until it is receiving air from outside of the engine compartment just to let you know.

But, Aluminum is a better conductor for cold air.

Viused, that's why I'm leaning more and more toward my third choice.

Very small air tempature differance for metal and plastic. The air moves through it so fast it doesn't have time to heat up. More importantly is were you get the air from, the colder the better, so the 3rd choice would be the best.

I seen on another forum some guy wasselling a ram air kit for the full size Dodge, the scoop waslocated on the side of the radiator about where our coolant/windshield wiper fluidtanks areat, seems likesomething simularmight work on the Dakota, you would have to figure out where to relocate the tank though, not alot of room in that engine bay.

The only problem with that is, you'd have to relocate the coolant resevoir and the window cleaner bottle. Not sure exactly where I'd put something like that.

save your money, go to the hardware store and get yourself a funnel, cut the end off of it and connect a tube to that , that will deliver cooler air to the system.

Go to http://store.racinglab.com/weramairkit.html. I'm actually interested in this, if nothing else, for the looks.
