The '08still isn't a gen4, just a jen3 update. Same as the '90->'91 exterior/powertrain change, or the '00->'01 interior change.

That being said, I WANT THAT NEW 4.7. I have the current one, and it's underwhelming and sucks gas. Although I did notice they still won't have MDS on the new 4.7, probably due to the SOHC design making it expensive to do.

I agree that the 08 is a revision not a generation change. The truck is basically the same. The super structure & most body panels are still interchangeable not like G1 to G2 and G2 to G3

I like the new 08, 3rd or 4th generation, I don't care but like the proposed changes... Too bad I didn't know that a month and half ago.[sm=boosign.gif]

The new daks are nice BUT

Gonna have to say the second gen Dak's. They werent so heavy and that 4.7 teamed up well with the weight. But 4.7 aside, a 2nd dakota with the 318 or 360, 4x4, and quad cabis the icing on the cakeIMO. The new ones are alright too, just dont like what dodge has done both inside and out with the truck. The only improvements that i saw when it comes to the "truckyness" of it was they added tow hooks to the front of them, that wasnt an option back in 2nd gen.

I still think that the gen 2 is the best. I love the body lines on them. the gen 3's are all boxy. and the 08's are just ugly.[:'(]

they just look soo much better.

Gee, I wonder what the poll would show when it is posted in the gen 3 forum. To be dead honest with you, the gen2 is the best looking one. I like the features that have evolved since, but for looks the gen2 takes the cake.

Don't be so quick to reply with misleaded information. Yes, the ball joints were an issue, however, the tranny situation seems fine to me. There are lemons of every mass produced vehicle. The gen2 dakotas are no more a lemon than any other generation. If you gaze through the gen3 forum, you will find several ongoing catastrophic problems. So don't be so quick to rant on something you may know nothing about.

The parts arent ****, no worse than the newest generation, or any generation for that matter. CNN showed that Consumer Reports found the new dodge dakota's are one of the least reliable trucks on the road. Yet i know people and members on here that havent had any problems at all. My point being each vehicle is different, and opinions will vary. As for the ball joints, that issue arised when dodge changed over to the 4.7, which caused DC to rework the front end, and was eventualy addressed. The transmission issue is irrevalant as you are going to have problems with any vehicle.
