Howl In OD
I just bought a new 2006 Dodge Dakota with the V8 Magnum, 4.7 Liter, 5 speed.
I notice a howling noise in the drive train after the truck is in OD and going about 45 on city streets. After letting off the gas and then touching a little so the truck isn't coasting anymore. This isn't an engine noise and it's not road noise. It's only after letting off the gas and then touching the gas again to speed up a little. It almost sounds like a bearing type noise. It only has 500 miles on it.
Could be nothing, but concerns me as it is fairly loud and noticeable.
Anyone else encountering this?

I cant say I have noticed it. go back to the dealership. it is deffinetly still under warranty. take them for a ride and show them what it does. make sure you go though, as they may not drive like you do.
Sounds like maybe a clutch situation to me, hard to tell without hearing it though.

Thats a good call. I dont hear any real engine noise. but road noise is enough to drive a guy nuts. thats about the only thing I hear though, just road noise. When I first start up the truck and it is super cold out, you can hear the tranny, but that is just to warm it up. it doesnt shift into OD untill it is warm. Oh and btw. have them check to see if there are any T.S.B.s for it. I had my 06 in today for tranny tsb's... maybe you can get them taken care of now, so you dont have to worry later. (tsb = Technical service bulliten...covered by warranty)
sometimes when i stomp on it, and the radio is loud, i hear some type of "transmission" (not as in, tranny, just noise, as in the speakers) through the radio. i heard this is my ram aswell. if the radio is off, sound isnt there, but its only once in a while and when i really stomp on it. maybe your hearing the same thing. its more of a whistling noise, once again, through the radio
