4-wheel drive, and AWD are 2 different things. An AWD R/T would be alright, a 4-wheel drive R/T is lame.

a 2 wheel drive truck is just a lifted up car to me.
Yeah, 4WD really makes a difference when you need to haul a load of mulch, or stone, or move funature, or haul lumber. They should stop making 2WD trucks all together. Try sticking a piece of 8'x4' piece of MDF in a lifted up car.

i had a 4wd truck before and i didn't get it in my Dakota because i simply didn't use it. 2wd really suited me and my uses best. however, if i were a big off roader or lived further north (i'm in PA...we don't get as pounded by winter weather as the midwest and new england), i would surely get 4wd. it just depends on what you want to use it for.

personally, in an R/T, i don't think they should have 4wd or awd, like the old Gen IIs were, because it's an R/T...Road/Track...not an offroad or snow/ice truck. it's supposed to be fast. all the weight of the 4wd system would just slow it down. that's why i wouldn't want it in my R/T.

AWD is actually a good thing for a truck. Great for handling, that's why they have them in Subarus and mostof thesmaller sports cars. But 4X4 I wouldn't do.

Hey Ihad a '99 R/T. Great truck, at the time the best I've owned. Always owned MoPars so no coment on the others. I'm"older" then alot of you. My first car was a new '68 Road Runner and have had atleast 3 cars and or trucks at at time since. That being said my 2006 R/T Dakota is one of the best I have ever had. Quaility and ride is why up there. Speed , must admit needs some help. But believe me don't knock em unless you try one!
Just me ventingto my"OLD" buds with 360's!

I just bought am 06 yellow R/T a little while back. i am satisfied with it. i wish it did have the hemi, that would have been sweet. and ya it really isnt much different than the others but was the earlier ones like stated earlier? um no not really. i like the older ones and where i live we have snowy winters plus i live in the country so a 2wd R/T wouldnt work for me so im glad they made the new ones 4wd.
all i got to say is we had a 5.9 in a half ton ram and also a 5.2 in my old truck and they both were turds. and they used to advertise the old dakota's 5.9 a huge motor?

OK, guys and gals. I'm new to this site and new to owning a truck. I grew up with front wheel drive cars and left my SVT Focus for this QC Dakota r/t. So, as you already know I don't belong here on this site with you truckies. I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to geta little better gas mileage and a little better handling out of this truck. I guess I figured when I saw r/t on it I wouldn't have to worry about handling. I figured it would corner better and be more stable. Am I just out of my mind here? I lovemy truck don't get me wrong. Almost 3000 miles in 1 month. Wasn't expecting to do that or I would have the car for another year or so.
The other problem here is that I'm not a do it yourselfer. I never learned how to work on cars when I was younger. So, the thought of doing things to a car under warranty terrifies me. Do you have any ideas for me to help with handling and gas mileage that any idiot like myself can do. Do I really deserve to driving a gen 3 r/t??? Who knows maybe I can pull this off. LOL Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

Uhmmm, wow, what to say to all that.

First off, welcome to the forum, just cuz you came from FWD cars, don't mean anything....

I drove FWD cars most my life... and I fit in here perfectly.

The SVT Focus.... I almost bought one of those, you have three or five doors?
