Default airbox gets fresh air now

In preparation for an Airaid Jr kit coming next week I thought I would put a larger feed tube to the lower airbox. Heres a few pics of the parts and finished product, its 4" inside diameter. LOL the old tube seems whimpy now...

If you had checked
your MAP and IAT sensors
at full throttle/4500 rpm
before and after this mod
you would know if it did any good.

Exposing the air filter to uncoming air directly from the highway
which can be filled with bugs, dirt, plastic bits, etc
might increase air pressure slightly
when the filter is brand new and clean,
but what will the total restriction be after
500, 5000, or 10000 miles?

Good question on the debris. So this is what the factory doesn't do, I installed a prescreen at the inlet to keep large debris out. The factory just has an open hole. This should help keep it clean.

It looks good. I've been wanting to cut out the hole in the side of the truck and make it bigger with a bigger tube feeding the colder air into the system.

Very creative. I like it. I also like the prescreen idea. That should keep out any leaf clippings and such. I'd move the wires that are in front of the air box so you don't get any obstruction.

Thanks, it takes about $15, some free time and a dremmel type tool is HIGHLY encouraged. Let me know if you need more details.

Looks good I did about the same thing. Also, I cut two slits at the top and bottom of that hole so I could fold that plastic into the fender so it scooped more air out of there. Just an extra tip.
