open up all the pertinent windows relating to your vehicle, options, etc. then you can see exactly how good your deal is.
Thanks Tony! I had seen the same numbers at www.truecar.com and the deal I am thinking about is $700 lower than the quote from truecar and bofa zag; putting it about $4200 below MSRP. Others on this thread seem to be getting 6-7K off MSRP but I haven't been able to offer that successfully around where I live.

Anyways appreciate the information.

Keep in mind that anyone 'paying' under cost on the new vehicle is simply not getting as much for their trade. The car salesmen just move the numbers around to what you want to see. If you seem overly concerned with your trade value, they will give you more for it....but not as much off the new vehicle. If you are focused on a great discount on the new vehicle, they offer less on your trade. They just play with numbers. Dealers don't actually lose money on deals.....they don't make deals that lose money (regardless of what they may tell you).

Just research what a good price is on the D using the many sources for invoice prices. Then, deduct any rebates and you have a great place to aim for a purchase price. Now, you also have to research what your trade (if you are trading) is worth. Don't take the dealers word as gospel....do your own evaluation. Search the many sites for finding what it should go for.

Don't concentrate on the actual specific numbers of either the new or trade vehicle. Concentrate on reducing the difference between them....that is the number that counts.

Now, see what kind of interest rate you should get (for your credit score) if you are not paying cash/check. This is another way they get you to overpay. They sell you on a loan that is at a higher interest rate than you deserve....that's more profit for them.

that's why it's best to get to just about signing paperwork THEN hit them with the trade. this way the two aren't "blended" as easily. you;ll really know what your getting for your trade and what you really paid for the durango

2012 Citadel
MSRP 43845
Paid 39101 after rebate, discounts, TTL was additional.
Plus, they added a trailer hitch for free.
But I can't obsess over price now that I bought it. I'll just enjoy it!!
This is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I'm really impressed with the ride, fit & finish
and power from the V6. Beats the old gas guzzling 4.7 in the JGC. Dodge did well.

That sounds like a decent deal.
You bring up a very good point!! The time to obsess over price is BEFORE you purchase a vehicle. Don't worry about it after it's done, go enjoy what you have bought.

There are a few 2011 former rentals on the market that I've been looking at. Most are in the 15,000mi range. Crew, AWD, Pentastar. Some are listed around 30 grand which is ridiculous considering I can get a new 2012 for about 32.5K. My gut feeling is that 27K is a fair price for one of these. Opinions?
