Anybody out there in the Detroit area who can tell us whether they have a Durango with the Captain's chairs at the auto show this week? We'd drive there from Indy to check them out to make our decision on whether to wait or not on our R/T purchase decision.

I asked our dealer about the captains chairs and was told that the middle bench and third row "two" is Dodge's answer to GMC's captains chair middle row and bench third row. He states that Dodge's research found that the current setup is appealing to buyers. He also advised that if you know you dond need the full bench, just totally remove the seat behind the passenger allowing access to the third row without having to tumble the seat.

Sounded like typical dealer speak to me but I guess the removing a seat works if you don't need/want the seating.

I dig the 2nd row chairs, but could not lose my bench just yet. My boy's baby seat is huge. If I put it anywhere but in the center, someone would be in the dash. I guess putting it in the third row would be an option, but I can't see doing that every day.
Kind of off topic, the dealership called the other day asking if we would be interested in trading out 2011 in for a 2012. They said they would match out payment. My wife asked why they would want to do this and they said they have people calling all the time looking for a leftover 2011, and they were sold out. We have only made 2 payments. Ours is a loaded citadel so I can't find the motivation to take them up on there offer. Has any one else been offered this deal? I think they have to have an angle. I was thinking of maybe asking for citadel just like the one we got but with r/t wheels?

Like I said Putt, Sounds like dealer speak. They don't even know what is in store for the new line. It says you can order one with no third row...wouldn't that be a Magnum?

War,

I would be very skeptical of the dealers offer like you seem to be. They will match out payment but for how much longer? I would definitely be interested if this is a legit offer and if it isn't would like to know what they tell you. Keep us informed if you follow up on their offer please.

Back to the topic: You'd think Chrysler would be more coordinated between their media group and the logistics of following-through on what their media group says. The Jan 6 press release says "2nd row Captains Chairs now available". I'm not sure what "now" means to Chrysler's media/marketing people, but, to me, they lied: Still not showing up on "build your own" Dodge site, and the dealer claims it's not showing up on their ordering system either. Someone screwed up.

In the 2011 model lineup that would be called the Durango Heat. That model was sans 3rd row. 2012 has it as an option now.

Despite the rear rake that provides memory of the Magnum, see a Durango and a Magnum side by side and the similarities quickly dissipate.
