Default 2011-2013 Durango Tow Hitch

My Durango R/T did not come with the towing hitch. I am planning to get the MOPAR towing receiver (Part # 82213155) and install it myself.

My question is, do I need to order a towing wire harness, or the Durango is already wired for the boat trailer's light to work?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to order a new bumper cover as well.

Not true. the bumper is supposed to be marked on the back side where you cut out the area or the hitch.

Make sure to get the hitch for the rt/heat version. its dfferent than the other durangos. the kit will also come with the bezel needed to fill in the gaps betwee the bumper and the hitch.

someties the vehice will have to be prorammed at the dealer to have the trailer wiring to be "turned on"

AK,

You will need the wiring harness as well. I suggest checking with the parts person at the dealership to get the exact part number for your particular vin. Below is the link to the Mopar.com site with one particular option.

I want to do the same for my 11 Durango Crew. Anyone have an approx price for installation from dealer? On top of that, think its better to have it dealer installed or through a custom auto shop? thanks

I did the install on my '11 Crew. Not to bad of a job. You will need to remove the rear facia. On the back side of the facia the the cut out template is embossed. Using a piece of chalk you can rub it across the facia and it will highlight the cutout. All of these steps are highlighted in the install instruction you should get with the new hitch. You can also find the instructions online. You can check to see if your truch has the wiring already installed. Mine did not, so I had to order and install that also. After installing the wiring harness you will need to have it enabled in the computer by the dealer. (mine charged me $20). If you will be using a brake controller you will also need to get that harness and install it also. Make sure you also order the right hitch. The R/T and HEAT are different than the Crew.

(I am not affiliated or promoting MoparPartsOnline, they just showed up in my search). I actually bought my parts on eBay.

Has anyone used or heard of this website: http://www.wermopar.com/parts-catalo...and-components

The price for a '13 Crew hitch is quite a bit cheaper than everyone else, and I noticed their part number is different. Before ordering one, I just want to make sure it's a reputable website, and I don't get the wrong hitch sent. I know I will have to order the bezel also, whereas it normally comes as a kit, but with both together, it still comes out cheaper than any other website's kit.

Cool

I ordered the MOPAR trailer hitch and came with the black bezel. (Mopar Part #82213155). Local dealer wanted $350.00 installed or $225.00 plus tax for the trailer hitch without the wiring harnest.

I ordered from Steve White Motors - Dodge Dealership in N.C (800) 779-3634 for $164.00 plus shipping.

I ordered the wiring harnest system based upon the Forum recommendation, but after I removed the spare tire, I found out that the vehicle was already pre-wired. I returned the wire harnest (unopened) and ordered the Combo 7 way and 4 way trailer tow outlet (which connects to the wire harnest). The tow wire outlet was $34.69 (Part #556055632AB or AC). I am still waiting delivery of the wiring tow outlet which was shipped 2 days ago. You should remove the spare tire to see if you have the wiring harnest. If so, all you need to order is the wire harness connector and not the entire harnest.

Thats interesting that the harness is already there. I'll have to check my 13 V6 because I just installed an aftermarket trailer harness, was gonna do Mopar but that appeared to be very hard running the harness from the front all the way to the back. I'll have to lower the spare to see if a factory harness is there.
