Default No Charge Maintenance Service Intervals?

So the oil change service intervals for a Durango are every 8k miles. This means you need to get 4.5 oil changes in 36k miles. In the No Charge Maintenance agreement on the Citadel it lists the generic oil changes every 3k miles valued at $30 (if it exceeds this amount then you pay the difference)...
It also states that your vehicle may have different service intervals but it explicitly states this agreement comes with 12 oil changes in 36 months. It never states what supersedes what.
Any insight?

here is what it states:
SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CARE: The Plan includes most factory recommended maintenance services and oil/filter change
coverage as outlined in the vehicle’s owner manual. Below are the items that are covered by the Service Contract. Based on the
term and mileage on the plan that you purchased, some of the items listed are not covered.
The Scheduled Maintenance Care Plan includes 12 oil and oil filter changes. The Plan will pay up to $30.00 for each oil/filter change
and lube. Any dealer charges in excess of the amount allowed by the Plan are your responsibility.
NOTE: Maintenance intervals and services may differ with those prescribed in your MANUFACTURER’S OWNER’S MANUAL.
Services not listed on this schedule, or services outside of the time and mileage interval that you purchased, are not covered by the
Plan and are to be performed solely at the owner’s expense.

Mine has been on the 3K interval for the past 12K miles, no questions asked.

Is oil change really every 3k? I would think given today's hi-tech engines, a larger interval is in order. My VW is every 10k. Granted it uses synthetic oil but every 3k is frequent.

It could go up to 5k if you want to stretch it, But more frequent oil change will pay off in the long run. It is also a good thing to bring ur car into the shop every 3-5k for simple inspection, like checking tire pressure and make sure all safety items are in check.

Those Oil change plan pays for 12 oil change, you can change ur oil every month and every 1000 miles, there will be no questions ask.
Oil change are so cheap nowaday, Chrysler is running 4 oil change for $50 promotion in my area. The Chevy dealership across the street from me have a sign posted $15 oil change. And I kept recieving mails like $30 for Oil change + tire rotation for my Toyota from the dealership.

German cars are something else... How much do you paid for an Synthetic oil change every 10k miles at ur dealership?

I have no problem getting oil changed every 3k. We did that with our Honda Pilot.

My Touareg costs $89-125 for oil change. Every 20k is a bigger service.

Even though they give more, I would just change my oil every 5k with the free maintenance plan. It doesn't hurt you to not use them. If you just want to use them, feel free if you have the time to kill.

Today's engines are not like the old days, they don't need near the maintenance that cars did back 20 or 30 years ago. Metal alloys are better used, tolerances are tighter, and manufacturing processes have improved. Oils have also improved. If you pay to have your oil changed every 3k, then you have just fallen for the scare tactics of oil change places. There is no need for it....and I'm a very **** person when it comes to maintenance.

Is interval in manual at 8k? Sure, it's no problem getting it done every 3k when it's free. It's not about the money. Just wondering what the recommended interval is. If it's every 3k, that just seems to frequent with today's engines. 5k seems like a good number.

If you do go in every 5k, it's fine. Some problem i've seen is if we put a sticker for 5k interval on their windshield, we won't see them for another 6-10k. When we put 3k on their windshield, ppl usually return at 4-5k.
And sometimes ppl aren't aware of their engine have a small leak, when they go over the 3k interval... you know the rest.
But this is usually problems with older cars.

Engine are pretty well built nowaday, I had a customer who didn't know she needs to change oil, engine lasted around 34k miles before it lock up.

Good. I plan on doing a 3k one for sure. We've got 1900 miles so far. Going to go to our local Dodge dealer not the dealer from where we purchased -- just too far.
