Default Night/Day Colors Display

Is there an auto function to switch the 430N head unit/NAV display between night and day contrast? I'm having to manually switch back and forth under settings. My $100 Tom Tom I used prior to the D would switch on its own based on the time of day. Would be nice if the D's head unit were connected to the DRLs so I wouldn't have to switch on my own. Seattle area is dark most of the time now that is fall Any ideas? Thanks!

Since they dim by the headlights coming on, and you say it's dark.....what about kicking on the parking lights?

That's just the problem. I wish it was tied to the lights, but its not. Neither the Daytime Running Lights nor manually turning the lights on auto adjusts the contrast. The only way is to go into settings which gets old quick.

I should mention, our weather here can change from minute to minute in that its dark then the sun will peak out and back dark all in an hour sometimes. During fall especially, the weather can be crazy thus affecting the need to change contrast.

Not true. I bet you have your gauge backlighting on full/parade mode. If you roll the dimmer down past the first detent, when the headlights/parking lights are activated via auto or manual the screen will switch from day to night mode.

Next to the head light dial, there's a dimmer. You should be able to adjust it and it will adjust your 430.

There is a setting for this in the menu of the of the head unit. You set it so it dims when the headlights are on, then you set the brightness level to what you want when it's active.
If this is turned on and it's not dimming then take it to a dealer.

from above, also make sure your interior lights are not set to max on that wheel next to your headlight switch, this overrides the dimming effect.

Got it all. I think I initially confused myself. Coldsteel, Gunzo, I see that the dimmer is in fact tied in to the overall interior lighting system. What I was looking for was right under my nose and thanks to the tip from fuzzyb I had to go in under settings and actually select the "auto colors" button. Its located in between the "nightime" and "daytime" buttons on the touch screen settings. I had assumed it would already be functioning but in any case, once you select this option, the touch screen display is now tied into the headlights and DRLs. Thanks everyone!
