Default 8-Speed?

Hi,

I'm in the market for a 2012 Durango. I have been hearing rumors that an 8-speed might be available soon. Has anyone heard anything more definitive?

Thanks!
Joe

With the 8 spd coming up this could finally shut up some of the car reviewers on Dodge/Chrysler hanging on to the old 5 spd cogs. The 8 spd definitely ups the competition and if Dodge/Chrysler brings/combines the multi-air assist tech of Fiat to their engines, Dodge/Chrysler will have one of the most technologically advance powertrains in the auto industry.

Can't wait for the 8 speed ,literally!
That is why I bought the 2011. If it was anytime soon we would have waited because this thing is pretty gutless off the line. Oh well...

the 8 speed in the V6 will just about make the V8 obsolete. It'll probably get 2-3mpg more than the current setup and drop a full second in acceleration (plus make the truck feel lively at any forward speed). Hopefully they get the ratios right (and short). 1st-5th should be tight with 6th-7th-8th being OD gears.

Just wanted to post some refreshed source for this topic in a while. Was in detroit this past weekend and had dinner with a friend and his supervisor, a upper exec at dodge. He told me the 8 speed will be out late this year and for sure in the 2013 model. I also found a article a few weeks ago and forgot to post. Hope this helps.

the 8 speed will not be available till 2014 on the Grand Cherokee/Durango. Your exec is wrong. Where are they gonna source them from until the plant is done? I have sources but dont want to link to a competing forum.
