Aftermarket/OEM roof rack (Thule)
ok, and on the 3rd gens do the second row seats fold and tumble to allow 3rd row access? if so folding them up agains the seat and dropping the front wheel into that well may work for you too (that is what i do, but i also dont carry passengers very often)
Heres a photo of mine bring to go straight in. I don't have a hitch rack yet so when i do load her up i put her at an angle in the back with the rear wheel in first (fits better)

Well i live in FL so thats a little to far of a bike ride lol
And also looking at your photo of how your seat flips forward, i don't think that the 3rd gen does that. If it does i couldn't figure it out yet.......

I'm from southern DE. I have one-sided look pedals on my road bike and like them, no problems getting in them. I have been considering switching to an SPD on my road and then getting the pedals that are normal on one side and SPD on the other for my hybrid bike.. Then I can use the same shoes..
yes the crank brothers pedals are meant for mountain bikes, however when i get a road bike i plan to run them on that too just so that i can get away with only one pair of shoes since spd (mountain) and road cleats use different mounting holes.
