I have read the the left is lower as to not blind oncoming traffic and the right is a bit higher to illuminate traffic signs on the right side of the road. This is the way mine look when I start it up and it shines on the garage door.
When you next think about it, get closer to the door at night. You will notice that both headlights have a lightning bolt upper cutoff. The left side is lower to not dazzle oncoming traffic. As far as I know, all modern factory HID headlights have that same cutoff design.
Because of the projectors (the glass ball covering the lamps) the lights are really even and then cut off completely. They should be aimed perfectly it is just a lot easier to notice the differences with three protector lenses.
