So just to be clear, you have Navigation and/or SirriusXM and that reception has been fine too?

Ok I'm an idiot, how are you guys selecting an antenna for the Durango on the menus on this website?

Yes sir I have both... Shoot them an email they will direct you to what you need and send a paypal invoice. I believe the website still doesn't indicate the Durango!

Default Sharkfin Installed

Just installed the sharkfin. It is definitely an improvement over the bee-sting. They have added the 2012 Durango PAR color match to the dropdown in the store so you don't have to call them.

A few pointers
  • The color match was not exact. It was a little darker but you would never notice from a distance
  • The supplied screws to mount the antenna wire do not fit. the screw is a 1/4 32
I had to cut apart the bee-sting to get the screw part so it would mount properly.

So do you have to unbolt the stock antenna base from the roof or do you just unscrew the "mast" part of the antenna from the base and the sharkfin just goes right over the stock base?

I had a water leak on my '06 CTS stock sharkfin and I had to unbolt the base of the antenna from the roof to put sealant in between. I had remove half of the headliner just to gain access to the 3 nuts that held the base of the sharkfin tight against the roof. Since several of the posts on this thread said its a simple 10 min. install, I'm assuming this is not necessary for the sharkfin install on the D?

You are on the right track. The mast unscrews, you attach the cable in the sharkfin to where the mast was, align the sharkfin and press down for a minute.

The sharkfin covers and hides the entire base

So the shark fin is really just held in place with an adhesive?

How secure do you think it is?

And how is the reception now? When I just unscrewed the mast, I found the reception to be terrible.

No loss in reception. It secures fine with 3m double sided and would take some force t rip it off

I didn't see it listed just now.

I have one on my Pontiac G8, and messed up the alignment the first time i tried to install. Getting the adhesive off was very difficult. You do not need to worry about the fin coming off. FYI if you need another adhesive strip you can email the company and they will mail you one for, I think $8.

Reception is the same at stock.
Install is very easy. Just double check alignment before you attach.
