Question Speaker Size???

I know some of you have already done some stereo upgrades. What are the sizes of the speakers in the Durango? Looking into swapping mine out soon. Any type of special crap needed or is it simple? I am not a stereo guy so i know questions are a little vague. Thanks!

6x9"'s in the front doors, 6 1/2"s in the rear doors. Those would be the only things worth replacing. IMO

You also have the tweeter too. You can get a component kit but there isnt too many component systems with 6X9 speakers. You can buy adapters to turn the 6X9 to a 6 1/2. The adapters are pretty cheap I bought mine off Amazon for about $7 shipped. I only went this route because I have two sets of 6 1/2 JL Audio components from my old car which are pretty new and dont want to buy a completely new system. Hope this helped.

Yes, he is correct. I went with new 6.5 coax in the front and rear doors and also replaced the front tweeters. In the back, I replaced the stock woofer with a JL Stealthbox and amplified and tuned from there. Really sounds fantastic and is 100 percent stealth - no clues to it at all other than the sound. (Oh, wait, I did have to add a subwoofer gain control in the area beneath the stereo and a/c. beside the cig lighter.

The impedance of the speakers in this system is 2 ohms. Typical car speakers are 4 ohm. If you replace with 4 ohm speakers you will be getting less power and may notice lower volumes. The explanation from Alpine is that when the 2 ohm speaker is combined with typical small gauge (18AWG) wire used in car harnesses the total impedance seen by the amp approximates 4 ohms.

The only 2 ohm speakers I have found online are from Infinity. I have not tried them but that may be your best bet. Check Amazon, they have the 6x9's and 6.5s for less than $100 a pair.

I just ordered adapter plates so I can do 6.5s all around. But should I get MTX TDX65 6.5" 240W 2-Way or MTX TN653 6.5" 180 WATT 3 Way?? I want to go MTX Audio as it flows with my color scheme. I dont know differance in 2 and 3 way. Thanks for the help!

Difference between 2 way and 3 way is that a 2 way has a woofer and tweeter. A 3 way has a woofer, mid range driver and tweeter. Personally I think a 2 way is fine with a 6.5 speaker. You'd probably be hard pressed to hear the difference.

I'm curious to know if you think the bass response is any better with just a speaker swap, let us know.

I wouldnt worry too much about going three way. You already have a tweeter built into the car it wouldnt make a big difference if you got the three-way speaker. Im actually going to replace all speakers and install two sets of JL Audion components hooked up to a JL Audio Amp. Its going to sound good. Just have to find the right shop to do it for me.

How does this set up sound with the stealth box? I definitely want to upgrade and will spend the extra to keep it out of sight. The D just needs fuller sound instead of the stock setup that sounds like a tin can. Just need to save up some cash now....
