Default How many times before its a lemon?

So how many times does a vehicle have to be in the shop before its considered a lemon? I'm thinking of calling Dodge and complaining - I've had my R/T since the beginning of December, and about to put it in the shop for a 5th time, due to a whistle noise that is coming from the left front area, and what sounds like fan rattle/vibration from the Nav unit. I've already had the door glass run seal replaced, and some genius tech who said the noise was coming from the sunroof because it wasnt level, adjust the sunroof to only screw it up even more, so had to bring it back to get THAT resolved. The noise still happens - pretty consistent between 30 - 40mph, but also happens at highway speeds of 60+. I'm going to take it to a different Dodge dealer with all my repair records from the shop that I bought it from, and HOPEFULLY they're able to resolve the noise. Love the Durango, but this noise is irritating

i dont know the lemon laws but i think they are different state to state. Also, from what I understand to be considered a lemon it would have to be something that makes vehicle unsafe or unuseable IE drivetrain, brakes, or airbags. Dont quote me at all on this as I am no expert. But contact Dodge and do it with a respective attitude cause that will make a huge difference on help given.

Yeah, I know it wouldnt really be considered a lemon, according to the law, I was just generalizing (is that the word I want to use?) I dont know. Its more of a nuisance than anything else. Even going back and forth with the dealer, I've never become angry, so I definitely wouldnt take an attitude if I feel the need to address this further up the chain.

Try driving with the mirror folded in. It won't solve the problem but it might pinpoint where its coming from.

What I can tell about the problem is its consistent between 30 and 40mph, with the window rolled up. Doesnt happen with the window rolled down. Above 40mph, it becomes less consistent, but still happens with some frequency. My assumption is that there is wind getting thru somewhere, some seal that isnt set, but I cant find it.

It does differ state to state. Im about to bring my RT back in for the fourth try to fix my shaky steering wheel. If not fixed this time, Im going to start the lemon process.

I hate squeaks rattles and whistles especially when you can't locate them. Here are a couple of things to check:
-Vertical seal on the outside of the door windows. Basically where the window meets the door frame. I found mine had popped out.
-Turn the fan on full speed. Theory being that it may increase pressure inside the cabin, proving that there is a leak to the outside.
-Slightly crack open a window and various combinations.
-I would still try with the wing mirrow folded in and the window up, mirrors in the past have caused a lot of issues with noise (the small gaps make noise similar to blowing air over an empty beer bottle), but in saying that no one else is complaining so I tend to think its not an issue.

Good luck.

Diggy33,
I can feel your pain. I am dealing with the same problems you are having with your Durango. I also hear the whistling noise in my truck when at speeds of 60+. I also have an issue with my exhaust.

Quick history, I've been complaining about the noise since I purchased it. I've been to 4 dealerships who all cannot figure out or the problem. I personally believe they know what the problem is but they do not want to address or be accountable for it. One dealer said it maybe the drive train, another said the can identify it and if they can't see or locate the problem (that came from the Chrysler service executive,) they can't fix it, another dealership just sat on my vehicle. THEY ALL HEAR THE PROBLEM OR ACTING LIKE THEY THEY DON"T.

I went through claims as well as the lemon claims department. They told me that my vehicle does not qualify for lemon because I did not have the car serviced enough and a claims manager would contact me. The claims manager would call me back during work hours. I would call back and leave messages. She would call several more times before saying she is canceling my claim. Needless to say, they were absolutely NO HELP AT ALL!!!!.

So I dropped it off at the dealership today so they can take another look at it. This time, I had video on my phone of the noise and let the service writer listen to it. So we'll see what they come up with this time. I told them I dont care how long they need it, I just want a guarantee that its fixed when I get it back. I swear, if I hear that noise after this stay in the shop, the dealer or Dodge will be buying it back from me.
