3.6 Pentastar misfiring
dealer sent my home home with it tonight. Said the egnieers told them to do some hard runs in it, reset the code and deliver the vehicle. We'll see what happens. The dealer was still getting the misfires after the head replacement. total BS....gonna call dodge cares
I've been absent from this board for a while, partially because I've been down on our Durango. In any case, it's sad to see this thread, but it's exactly what we've experienced for the past few months. We had the left side head replaced, which seems to have resulted in a host of problems, including an ongoing and untraceable oil leak. The Durango spent something like 40+ days of its first year with us in the shop. I pleaded with Chrysler to take our Durango back, as I thought we had a legitimate lemon law claim. They refused to do so, so I hired a lawyer, who thinks we have a good case. Not sure what the outcome will be, but I will update this board. Good luck to everyone with Pentastar problems - it can be a nightmare.
Not what I wanted to hear. Mine just went in Tuesday to have Cylinder #2 replaced, and they said they had to De Carbon the Engine? That's a new one for me. This after the first visit where they flashed the PCM, and the second visit where they said it was an EVAP leak (gas cap) So this time I stood right next to the Tech as he scanned and told him it was Cyl 2 misfire before he plugged in. Scanned it and said sure is, and they put me in a loaner. Hope they fix it, or they will be giving me a 5.7 as a replacement after I file with the Lemon Lawyer!
So basically, I am out of luck with letting the dealer charge me for 6 software updates to fix a problem that everyone seems to be having with misfires. This guy assures my wife that this will resolve the problem. Sounds like this isn't going to help me either. I might be checking on a lawyer myself. I did put over 70,000 miles on mine without any problems.
Then the misfire occurred and the dealership replaced the head right away. But then the idling problem came up and the misfires still.

I have a 3.6 2011 Dodge Durango and I also had to get the Head replaced about a month ago. Under warranty, so no problem. Wife took it in today for an Oil change and mentioned that it is still backfiring and also when Idling occasionally dies. Service folks told her that we had to pay to get 6 software updates done to resolve the problem. Do I need the head replaced again or does anyone know about the supposedly 6 updates for the software for the engine that is suppose to resolve the idling and backfiring?
thanks for you support!

About the fact that some of you are getting CELs after having the head(s) replaced...it's not a simple job so I would't be surprised if the work just isn't getting done correctly and other issues are being introduced by sloppy workmanship.
Update: Got the D back this morning, and have only driven it the 7 miles to work on the freeway. Not sure if it's mental, but it seems to pull harder, and have more power since the "de Carboning" and new head. Maybe it is because I drove a 2.0 Caliber for the last week
. They kept the D for a couple extra days to run some tests that Chrystler wanted them to do before returning it. So far, no codes, and I'm a happy camper again. Will keep an eye on it and put any updates up if there are changes.

Have the 6 updates done anyway but don't let them charge you more than one hour in labor if you're out of warranty.

Update#2: 2 days and the CEL came back on. Scanned and Cyl 2 misfire is back. Drove straight to the dealer, and come to find out they didn't replace the e head. Service manager stated they had to take the steps Chrystler told them to take. Now they have the parts ordered and will replace it when the part comes in. I told them, this is their last chance before they buy the car back and give me one with the 5.7 since this is my 5th trip, and we are well into the lemon law at this time. They got extra nice LOL!
