3.6 Pentastar misfiring
8 Hex bolts. Really? I assume those are head bolts, but just eight of them? Should there be 10 of them? 6509564AA
RL141353AC is the head so it should be the latest and greatest.
The greasy handprints on the white fenders were thrown in for free.
Dang. I forgot to check. It did idle rough.
I absolutely understand. I know that dealers hate, hate, hate to hear someone say, "Well, I read on the internet..." But having the information before hand can help people fine tune their BS meter.
I'm new to the forum, but wanted to address an issue that I'm having with my 2011 Durango with the new 3.6 Pentastar engine. It started misfiring every once in awhile a couple of weeks ago. I took it to the dealership and they said that the number 4 hole is showing a misfire on the computer. After talking to Chrysler's finest, they wanted to replace the head on that side. I take it in tomorrow to have them run a scan on it again and most likely have the head replaced. Has anybody else had problems similar to this or heard of anyone having similar issues? What is the correlation between a cylinder misfiring and replacement of the head? One last question.....is it common practice to replace just one head or are they usually both replaced? Thanks for any insight!
I am new to the forum but found it by searching my problem. Took my 2012 to the dealership for a check engine light and found out #6 cylinder is misfiring. They reset the computer and it still was misfiring. Chrysler told the dealership to replace the head. They are now replacing the head as well. Thank God for the warrantee.

It's so crazy that this issue presents a whole clusterfluff of different problems. I've had friends with only a CEL and ones with only the TICK and some with all 3 it's crazy man.
So my pops has his 12' wrangler and threw the code for misfire on cyl #6 last month. I used my scanner and it showed 1misfire during one firing event. I didn't erase the CEL as to capture future events. There were none and the light turned Off later that day and did not return. So he takes it in for a routine oil change yesterday and I get a call that they replaced the driverside head....WTH!! Only one CEL event, no ticking and no noticeable loss of power or drivability issues!! At first I thought they were just looking for warranty work but low and behold a cyl pressure test showed #6 was running at 68% compression. WOW. so apparently there are plenty of these heads out there. That's good news for all the pentastar v6s. To note the service manager and mechanic explained what we all suspected. The poor machining of the valve guide/ opening allows the valve to work back and forth until it spins in it's seat and allows compression to leak out of the cyl. That's the mild symptom issue. The more obvious symptoms like full blown misfires and ticking is when the valve cracks or opens the bore so much it slaps and causes the ticking sound. glad we got a Detroit head this time....
