Default Impressive Mileage with the HEMI

Had to go back to CT for a wedding this past week/weekend; my wife and I drove a combined 1020 miles and averaged 20.2 mpg.

The highway/city portion of the trip was approx. 70/30 (accounting for traffic jam)

I consider this to be fairly decent mileage when you consider that it is a big heavy vehicle, with a big engine that was loaded with people and stuff.

Although we used the adaptive cruise a majority of the time, it is great to have that extra power on tap when needed, since the route we take is a heavy truck route. (I-81 / I-78)

Totally agree with you on the HWY mileage. I went to Austin from San Antonio, 197 miles round trip and got 22.4 MPGs. Our highways here are not congested so my average speed on the highway was about the speed limit or ~70 MPH. I too used the adaptive cruise - love it and it kept me from wanting to use the far left lane just to relax from all the mergers. Before I exited in the city I was up to 24.1 MPGs. Now I've put a CAI and am getting better daily commuting mileage - can't wait to see what my HWY mileage is like now.

Cheers

I've been getting ~21-22 with mine going from IL to MI ~220 miles each way.

Sorry to hijack thread but Safford197 I'm moving to San Antonio in August. Where are the good Dodge dealers located? I don't know where we are going to live (rent until we find the right area and then buy) yet.

Mike, I purchased mine from IPAC on the North West side of town just south of Bandera Rd on the access road to IH410. I have to say I'm impressed with their service so far but this is my first Dodge. I had tried to buy a Mustang at the Redmcombs across the street but they did not treat me right.

As far as a place to live, that's up to you but its affordable to live here so I'd suggest renting a house if you have a family or find an affordable apartment - you shouldn't need a realtor, just google rentals in San Antonio.

Good luck!

I must not be driving correctly, because I drove from Colorado Springs to Denver and back yesterday with my R/T and just got 17.9 MPG. I will have to admit that I was getting on it every now and then because the traffic was frustrating me though. I think next time I will stick to my BMW.

Default road trip mileage.

I just road tripped about 800 miles from eastern WA to Vancouver B.C. I crossed two different mountain passes going up to about 2600 ft for one and about 4300 feet for the other. I started near sea level and Vancouver is near sea level. I spent three days driving in and around Vancouver. I fueled three times. My total trip average fuel economy was 17.2 mpg.

Took our AWD RT touring around southern Missouri this weekend. (The D makes a better date car than our Grand Caravan). Averaged 19 MPG going around 300 miles on various 2 lane roads full of twists turns and hills. I was rather impressed. My average speed was around 65 mph which helped quite a lot.

2012 R/T

My wife has been averaging 17/18 driving to work, short trip, country 2-lane with a couple stop signs, and one normally LONG traffic light each way. (evic calcs)

We recently took a 800 mile round trip, loaded to ceiling with luggage, 4 adults. mostly freeway @ 65/75mph, and averaged around 20 mpg. . . Some of this was hilly, construction delays, and some was "city". This was driving without too much excessive throttle . . . calculated from (speedo miles)/(pump gals) . . (not the generous evic dash display).

Default Great mileage yesterday!

I was in awe! Finally a road trip that did not include transiting mountain passes. I drove the Columbia River Gorge from Portland to Kennewick WA, a bit over 200 miles. In Oregon I drove 67 mph. (Johnny Law was out everywhere!) In WA I drove 73 mph (speed limit in Oregon is 65, Washington is 70) I averaged 22.4 MPG! I never passed, drove such that it would make Miss Daisy proud......In other words, no fun.
