To answer your question NO the brand of oil you use is not important. Yes as written in the owners manual "Vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine must use SAE 5W-20 oil. Failure to do so may result in improper operation of the Multiple Displacement System (MDS)." I would suggest you use synthetic oil since the interval recommend by the manufacturer is 8000 miles. BUT SYNTHETIC OIL IS NOT REQUIRED. You could debate oil brands and conventional compared to synthetic oil for days and days. It comes down to your preference. You didn't get 4 free oil changes from the dealer?

Looking through all the oils I only found that Pennzoil had the Chrysler certification. So yeah 7 qts of that and a MOPAR oil filter that Walmart conveniently stock. Mobil 1 has both Ford and GM certifications written on the bottle.

I only got my first oil change free

I do regret not getting Mobil 1 I've never used or known anyone who used Pennzoil, anyone have any experience?

+1 navyjetmech.

5W-20 is for the cylinder dropping at highway speeds. Other grades won't cut it.

As for miles on oil, only testings your vehicle's oil will tell you your truth... which may be different from someone else's truth. I would strongly recommend http://www.blackstone-labs.com/

As for oil discussions, try http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Does anyone have pictures or at least description of oil changes on the DD? I changed oil for other vehicles but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks.

I recently changed the oil in mine for first time, and it was very simple. . . Someone may have photos, but I doubt you would need them.

When you are under the engine, it is very easy to access the drain plug in oil pan, and the filter is in plain sight. Both drain straight down into a collection pan without a lot of mess.

All R/T come with a Hemi I believe....so there its the same old fashion oil plug/ oil filter can? I saw somewhere that the v6 had a replaceable filter type, kinda like the MB and BMW's so I wasn't sure...also does the Hemi cover just pop off by pulling up? I know its not needed to change the oil but I hate the break any plastic pieces too.
