I saw two more on the website from the same wrecking yard. From what I've been told by other folks, Dodge tests a bunch of new vehicles out and then parts them out. I've seen lots of near new parts up in the detroit area before for this reason.

yep,,,,the "new" headlights I got from allstar auto lights have a orange sticker on the inside....near the bulb that plainly reads "prototype" Id say these hoods are similar.

They have another black hood from what I hear. $550

Interesting.

Sarbanes Oxley doesn't allow for Dodge to "part them out" and having toured Mopar disty centers many times with the DOC, I witnessed first hand Chrysler dumping brand new items by the case load into trash bins as large as a bus. My guess is that these parts mentioned have "found" a way out of captivity and into the wild and the reseller channel by some resourceful inside help.

Cool to get prototype stuffs indeed. I run a prototype FAL eFan controller however it was sent to me from FAL as a test to fix a problem I was having with their unit I had already purchased. nearly 2 years later and the prototype is still working fine.

Interesting read. Sorry to thread jack but I bought a Mopar '11 Charger shifter grip on e-bay before the dealerships had them. I spoke to a guy who had a friend in the industry who indicated they had probably been stolen or misappropriated somewhere in the process.

Interesting what happens behind the scenes.

Anyways to OP, get that thing done and post pics quick. There are two of those hoods for $550 available now.

Just went to the dealer where they have a nice, new, ’12 SRT 8 Jeep. I do think that hood would look great on the Durango. Just for fun I inquired about prices:
• Hood = $927+paint, cutting and welding the seam for the grill.
• Wheels = $1400 X 4 = LOL (tires not included)
• Rear dif assy limited slip 230mm ring 3.70:1 (D’s is 225mm, open,3.46:1)= $3300
• Front dif assy(same open 195mm as the D but 3.70:1 to match)= $1400

I myself dont like that hood. If I wanted that look I would have bought a Jeep

Good luck with the project.
