You may save some money - if your dealer is cooperative - by buying the re-virginized (!) ones on Ebay. Either way, you will end up with a non-usable one that you could send off to be re-virginized, and you could then resell it on Ebay.
I'm resurrecting this thread, because I need some clarification.

We have one functioning FOBIK, and I want to get a second unit. Do I really need to buy two and replace the original as well, as described here? That seems ridiculous.

Also, I found this listing on Ebay purporting to sell new FOBIK's sans OEM packaging...is this legit?

Thanks!

Thanks!
Given that it says "New other" and no explanation and their very bad feedback rating, would not go near it.

You dont need 2 new ones. You do need to take every one you have with you though. When I did mine I bought 2, so I ended up with 3 total. I bought them from the key shop that programmed them.

Default Lots a fob over weekend :(

Man no clue how, lost my keys at the weekend, no clue where or how but am now down a FOB. So is my only option a $200 dealer programmed FOB??? You would think the dam "Smart" fob would be smart enough to tell me where it is for frick sake.

There's a lot of contradictory info in here and so I'm still not sure but the quote below is what I saved in Evernote about programming keys. It is from a Dodge Journey forum and from the discussion there it seems that all this still applies but Dodge just deciding on removing the information from owner manuals. Maybe someone can chime in and let us know what's what. I also read that RAM keys work fine too but cost more at the dealership than Dodge branded keys. It comes down to some folks saying we can have up to 8, some saying we can have 3 and others saying it's 2 only and additional keys knock priors out of commission (which seems pretty stupid but wouldn't surprise me.)
It also seems (according to all the threads I've read on Dodge forums) that nobody has ever done the 4 digit pin setup at the dealer and most dealers don't know about it.

Note that in the 2009 manual, there is a large amount of information on the key process on page 17 including duplication and the fact that you can have up to 8 keys:

"Replacement Keys

NOTE: Only RKE transmitters that are programmed to the vehicle electronics can be used to start and operate the vehicle. Once a transmitter is programmed to a vehicle, it cannot be programmed to any other vehicle.
At the time of purchase, the original owner is provided with a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). Keep the PIN in a secure location. This number is required for authorized dealer replacement of RKE transmitters. Duplication of RKE transmitters may be performed at an authorized dealer or by using the Customer

Key Programming procedure

This procedure consists of programming a blank transmitter to the vehicle electronics. A blank transmitter is one that has never been programmed. NOTE: When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer system serviced, bring all vehicle RKE transmitters with you to the authorized dealer.

Customer Key Programming

If you have two valid RKE transmitters with integrated keys, you can program new transmitters
1. Insert the first valid integrated key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position for at least three seconds, but no longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the first key.
2. Insert the second valid integrated key and turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds, a chime will sound and the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and remove the second key.
3. Insert a blank integrated key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound and the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will stop The new integrated key is programmed. The RKE transmitter will also be programmed during this procedure.
Repeat this procedure to program up to eight keys. If you do not have a programmed RKE transmitter with integrated key, contact your authorized dealer for details.

NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your authorized dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the system’s memory. This will prevent the lost key from starting your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be reprogrammed. All vehicle keys must be taken to an authorized dealer at the time of service to be reprogrammed."
I do not believe there are any changes in the 2010 vehicles in this area (no hardware changes) so the process should be the same.
If this info is true it would cost you $50 or so to buy a blank online and another $55 or so to get a dealer/locksmith to program it for you. If you're worried about someone stealing your truck you have to buy more blanks and bring your active FOB and get it totally reset and have the new keys activated. After you have 2 active keys you could program additional ones yourself with the only cost being a new blank RKE FOB.

I also would like to know if this info is valid so I could program a third.

The real kick in the pants is these fobs probably cost under ten bucks to produce, and they're just up-selling with a ridiculous margin.

Did you check any locksmiths? I heard they can provide the same service if they work with the same system/company or however it works.

Those prices are nuts.
