Hey guys just got the info -

You can program up to 8 keys at least until the 2013 Durango

You can buy blanks for $60 from replaceyourremote

I called an automotive locksmith and he said hed program the blank for $50 and if I bought the blank from him he'd do it all for $82. It's one of those guys who comes to you when you're locked out and does 24hr emergency calls.

The guy could have been full of it but I don't think so. This is Dodge Caravan and Ram truck territory so he has to get calls on this all the time. Gonna buy one blank just to be sure I have the exact 5 button FOB I need and return it if he can sell me the same for $32.

I found an easier way last night, have your 3 year old move that one glass bowl on kitchen counter that holds random junk and find your keys nicely camoflauged behind it. Haha, jesus only been looking for over a week and a half. Time to buy one of those key finders with the apps they have out now could have saved me allot of headache.

When my youngest was 4 she determined that it was fun to hide daddy's keys and wallet. Keys were found inside boot I never wear and wallet was discovered in the trash can. Would have never found them but the little Angel confessed when stuffed animals were threatened.

I went out and got a few quotes, and my area locksmiths must be weird, because the dealer was actually slightly cheaper ($225 at the dealer vs. $245 from a locksmith).

The dealer breakdown was:

$165 for the FOBIK
$30.90 for the hideaway key
$50 for programming/labor

Then I got a 10% discount because this is from the dealer I bought the car.

So before I found the darn thing, I did buy one off fleebay, remanufactured @ $70. So im thinking I till take key out of original and put in new one, tell them(dealer) my smart key not working and hopefully get it programmed free of charge under warranty and cant I just get the actual key cut anywhere relatively cheap???

Key finders gotta be cheaper than new FOBs. Congrats on finding it. Losing stuff for me is like a fly zooming around my house - can't focus on anything until I deal with it.

My oldest used to like to dump grandma's purse in the toilet when he was about 3. That actually was pretty great. I don't hit my kids but I'm not opposed to taking Bearbear hostage.

Im over in Greenville, in the Upstate. Did you check many auto locksmiths? The guy I talked to didn't quote me on the hideaway copy. I forgot to ask about that part.If he charges $30 for that it would be the same price as your dealer except he charges $130 less for the FOBIK. I'm guessing that's because it's a knockoff.
Hopefully paying more now will payoff down the road when you go to them for service or a new car.

The hideaway is just a physical key so that should be cheapest. You might be able to get that copied at a hardware store if it doesn't have a chip in the little black plastic area. If not your best bet is to call around. Auto locksmiths are cheaper in my area but 03Neon got a better price from his dealer.

I spoke with two different auto locksmiths in the Charleston area, and they both had similar prices. I think I'm actually going to go with the non-dealer option, since its more convenient then having to make an appointment and sit around at the dealership. The 10-20 extra bucks is worth the convenience IMO.

Re: the hideaway key. Agreed, as far as I can tell, there's no chip or anything in it. Its just a standard cut key (not laser cut), so I would think any key copy place would be able to cut it. I'm not 100% sure on that though...
