Thanks for the ideas, yep I checked the jack and cargo space under floor, also checked shock for leaks everything looks ok, I talked to a local parts guy and he told me similar sounds have been corrected by installing small shock bushings.. He stated this would compress the shock slightly more with the vehicle at rest and could correct the problem without risking bottoming out, as I have no plans to jump my d r/t. I plan to to this soon I will report back

I also have this issue. I have taken into the dealership but of course they suggested I drive it for a while to see if the shocks break in a little. Due to other issues with my Durango I have put this issue off. The other day I looked underneath the Durango to see if my full size spare was loose or if the exhaust was rubbing off of a plastic piece as other members have suggested. Neither seemed to be an problem. While hitting and pulling on the tire I noted there was an echo type thud which was similar to clunk I am hearing inside the Durango. I am eventually going to take the spare out to see if the sound stops but I just haven't found the time to do it. Has anyone with this problem driven without their spare attached.

After chasing the notorious thump in the front end of my 2004 and 2008 I can tell you a bushing with just the little bit of clearance will produce the noise we all our hearing. You can never check for a worn bushing/excess clearance on anything but completely level ground at normal ride height.
Also the jack and its parts could be the culprit as well.
