If an intake would gain you 30hp we would have all been doing it back when the 5.7's and 6.1's came out, that's not gonna do it. To get those type of gains we needed intakes, full exhaust, headers and a tune. Now a days it seems we get less and less from intakes and exhaust because the manufactures are really doing a better job. And I get the 30hp from the numbers of the 2012 D R/T having 360hp and the RAM putting out 390hp.

Id disagree with the above. From what I was told different intake manifold was used for clearance issues. Also an intake manifold can make a world of differance. How the air is sent into motor can make a good change in performance. Look at the 5.0 mustang from stock to gt40 intake.

Intake manifold not cold air intake. Big difference

Yes i understand that. The GT40/Explorer intake put onto a mustang 5.0 netted a great gain in HP. An intake manifold can give you a great increase in power due to a better delivery of air. Which will result in better mixture of air/fuel to increase power.

I'm curious to know if the 6.1 unit or even the 5.7 unit out of the ram could be fit with an aftermarket hood to provided additional height if that's what caused the packaging issue? Anyone know?

I guess the Ram intake is active (it has valves which actuate at different rpms) so our computers aren't compatible either.

Interesting find on Power & Torque Ratings

Durango 2012 Specs:
Power: (est.) (SAE J2723) 360 hp (268 kW) at 5,150 rpm
Torque: (est.) (SAE J2723) 390 lb.-ft. (529 N•m) at 4,250 rpm

Ram 1500 2012 Specs:
Power: (SAE net) 390 hp (291 kW) @ 5,600 rpm
Torque: (SAE net) 407 lb.-ft. (548 N•m) @ 4,000 rpm

Seems as thought the RAM Truck testing does not meet the new standard (SAE J2723) for power rating and is therefore elevated due to the testing procedures that don't account for real life conditions.

Also the Durango Power & Torque is estimated and the new SAE J2723 standard does not allow a manufacuter to quote a rating higher then the engine's actual capabilities.

I think D3 had found the difference, look at the different RPM they were both tested at, great find I never would have thought a test would be the difference...lol! Higher RMP will show higher HP and lower TQ and the different intake would reflect the small difference left over.

And to follow up with the intake manifold I will still have to disagree with an intake manifold making 30hp on these 5.7's. Other motors maybe but not this one. I was part of some of the very first internally modded Hemi's in the country back in 2006 and we didn't get gains of 30hp from swapping the 6.1 intake on the 5.7. We got 30hp gains from better cams and or heads for those kind of gains along with a tune. The intake manifolds were helping us after we made those kind of internal mods not before. We are working with the same block but now the 5.7 has VVT so if a different intake manifold will gain me 30hp why does my tuner say other wise? Trust me I have squeezed every bit of power I can out of my 5.7 Magnum and I asked about the intake manifold and TB, my tuner said it wasn't worth the money for the minimal gain.

And also just a quick side-note it looks like the tuner for the Durango from Diablo will be coming out this month and sadly there is not a lot to be gained from a CAI, exhaust and a tune (15HP) but the torque management is where we will feel the biggest difference.

Thanks for the input and research folks!
