I would never buy an extended warranty...especially a 3rd party (aftermarket) extended warranty. If you feel you need one, get the manufacturers warranty only!

Default Extended warranty

Having worked in the auto industry my entire career, my 2 cents worth is to always buy the manufacturers warranty if you feel you need one. There are many advantages to the mfr's warranty. Among them, you only get OEM parts for the repair, not used or aftermarket parts. The mfr's warranty is honored at any dealer. If you are broken down, while out of town, you could have trouble finding someone to honor the aftermarket warranty. Also, the aftermarket companies have a habit of going broke, leaving you holding a useless piece of paper. Get a refund on the warranty you bought and you have plenty of time to decide if you need the extended warranty. Think of it as an insurance policy.

I bought the Lifetime Maximum Care plan at the time of delivery for $2695 from the dealer. This is the first extended vehicle warranty I ever purchased, but I plan on keeping the D for 10 years. Time will tell if I made a good decision.

By and large these things are a waste of money. If the companies didn't make huge profits on these, they wouldn't sell them. Cars are made a lot better today than they ever were, making these things even more useless. The likelyhood that you will spend 2-3K on covered repairs over the life of the warranty is slim (not zero, but slim). And once your car gets old enough to really have things start going wrong, no one is going to sell you a warranty on it. Best bet is to put your money in the bank and use it for repairs. Over the life of several cars you will almost guaranteed have money left in that "warranty" bank.
