Default Wheels for '14 Durango Citadel

Greetings, all!

I have a '14 Durango Citadel on order, and the only thing I'm not quite sure about are the wheels. Haven't seen the wheels yet in person of course, but I generally prefer fewer spokes than the citadel's 15. Even 10 spokes might be OK...but 15...not sure.

I've never changed wheels from stock before, but I've been doing my homework and think I've got most of the fitment stuff figured out. I'd like to keep the ride close to stock, so I'm not looking to step up to 22s or anything.

I see that many folks here are happy with FactoryReproduction Jeep wheels (those are the repros of the 2010 SRT wheels, correct?).

My main question about these is the rim width of 9"...can they take the same tires as the stock 20" Durango wheels (265/50 R20)...which are usually mounted on the stock (8" wide I think) rims? If the same tires can be mounted, does that stiffen the ride a bit?

I also assume there are no fitment issues with the 20x9s. (No tire rubbing, etc.) Correct? I know some of you have the 20x9s mounted, and I didn't seen any comments on fitment issues, but wanted to make sure. (vs. the 20x10s which might have fitment issues at the front.)

If I don't like the stock Citadel wheels, I'll likely either go with the 20x9 FactoryRepros, or go with a different OEM wheel for the Durango or Jeep Grand Cherokee (but that can get more expensive).

If anyone has any other wheel suggestions or shops I should look at, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Default Wheels

I just had the wheels you are considering put on. The extra 1" to a 9" wheel fits perfect and the recommended wheel width for the stock tire 265/50/20 is 8-10"

The only drawback I see is the yuk coming off the wheels may cause I bit more wear on the lower panels. Dodge did put 2 strips of a clear protection film on the rear panels. I'm going with a few pieces of 3M invisible mask.

I didn't go with FR brand since my local dealer only stocks OEWEHEELS they are online for $696 a set plus shipping. Mine where $889 with lugs and locks and $20 to dismount new stems/ move TPMS and Roadforce Balance..

The fit and finish is flawless. each wheel took 2.5 oz and 1oz to balance in the same exact location.

I bet 10" would fit, there is a ton of room in the front, at least 2.5" between the tire/wheel to the upper strut mounting. Have to check the back. Also the extra 1" in width appears to be all on the outside. They really look good in the wheel wells.

Thanks for the info, Mike...ride looks great!

I am a bit perplexed by the wheel MOPAR offers. They offer this 20" wheel as a replacement for Durangos and Jeep grand Cherokees. This looks like the same wheel that is on various 2013 Durango trims...but with different finishes. (Blacktop wheel is gloss black, RT wheel is polished aluminum with gray pockets, the crew optional wheel is polished aluminum with silver pockets...while the MOPAR wheel is bright chrome.)

However, MOPAR's site says it's a 7" width...could that be right?

That's what I thought...I assumed it was 8".

I'm in northern NJ (Morris county). I would like to see this wheel in person myself to see the finish. May have to try and find a dealer in the area.

I'm intrigued by the OEM wheel that is optional on the '14 Durango RT. It's the same design as the standard '14 RT wheel, but with a different finish. The standard RT is hyper black finish, the optional RT wheel is polished aluminum with gloss black pockets. I'm thinking that would look sharp with the crystal granite paint and the "chrome" on the Citadel. I'm afraid of what they would cost though...

I plan on buying the SXT 18" wheels for my Citadel. I will get them black chromed first from a local shop that has a unique chroming process. They use a a vapor deposition process which adds alot less weight than the typical chrome dip process and last longer. I did this 8 years ago on my current truck and they still look brand new. Should look really good I think with the Deep Cherry Red paint. I plan to black chrome the grill too. Here's more info on that process if anyone is interested.

It would be a heck of a lot cheaper to have the stock wheels sand blasted and the pockets powder coated black than it would be to buy a whole new set.

Unfortunately, My issue with the stock wheels isn't necessarily the finish....its the 15 spoke design....
