So it could be a bad starter switch or key fob?
In my case the engine quit at about 55mph and coasted to the side of the road leaving it in gear and not touching the key. At about 40mph it started again by itself much as it would have if I was getting a push start with a dead battery. It ran fine and then several days later it shut off while I was backing out of a parking space. I shut everything down and turned it off then started it again as usual. No problem.
I took it to the dealer and he found no codes that would explain the shut-downs. Faulty TIPM? Starter switch? Key fob? I have no idea and neither does the dealer.

Did you get the "keyfob detected press brake and press start" message on the EVIC after the first stall event? The problem seems to be stalling not starting so starter switch is out. As far as I know a TIPM failure won't cause a stall only a no start condition. Like when you start the truck and then go out if range with the fob the engine doesn't die. If it stalls again quickly press the start button to see if it starts. If not try lightly pressing the brake pedal and try restart. Hmm
The TIPM can cause just about any crazy thing you can imagine.

No EVIC message. RPMs dropped to zero, instrument panel remained lit, radio stayed on etc. Since there were no codes to check at the dealership I'm hoping it was just bad gas or some freak thing . . . like a zombie flux transmuter or a Klingon gamma quark beam. These things happen. :-)
Good to know bro. Have you come across a TIPM stall condition? Once these are off back order I just might keep one in the trunk. haha
Yes, when the fuel pump relay circuit takes a dump. There are sooo many circuits passing through that thing anything is possible. There was a kit to mod the fuel pump relay outside the TIPM. Not sure if they still apply though. Good news though, they seem to be off backorder now. As of today, 2 depots were showing 1,200 and 2,100 on hand. That was for Grand Cherokees, but Durangos should be available now too. I just ordered one myself this morning.
This was how my TIPM failure would occur:
I'd start the Durango (this usually occurred after already driving for a short distance and turning the SUV off), and it would instantly shut off. Try to start back up would endlessly not fire up (see video). Typically pulling and reseating fuse M25 would fix it.
I took it to the dealer where I got the Durango in Antioch and I showed them the video and they said 'yeah, we know, bring it in anytime and we'll fix it'. The next week we brought it in and they didn't know what we were talking about, and said it would take a week to get the part. So we dropped it off Monday morning and it was done that day. The service guy said they no longer need to replace the entire TIPM, but the 'overlap harness to fuel pump' (according to my paperwork).
Hope that helps anyone dealing with this crap too. Nothing cooler than a $45k vehicle that start!

More times than not it was while I was coming to a stop. The Durango always started back up. I also have gotten "Key has left the vehicle" or "No key detected" even though my fob is sitting right in the cup holder in the center console. I also had "dummy" lights come on and go off but again only a couple of times.
I've been in the dealer several times for this and they insist there is nothing they can do unless they experience the problems first hand. They did send me out the door with a data recorder now, but I have to hope that the Durango still stalls with the new warmer weather. Of course I am also just over 36K miles now and question they will continue to honor the warranty.

I had one weird thing happen on start up, in that it went from fast idle to nearly 0 RPM, but kept running. Just almost stalled.
Pulled the fuse box cover and began pressing fuses down to set them firmly, starting with # 25. Funny, many weren't seated very well at all. Haven't had an issue since....knock on wood.
