Default trailer hitch rattle??

Anybody else have excessive trailer hitch rattle on their DD3?

I had my dealer put the OEM tow hitch on as part of my deal and it looks great and works the way it should but it seems the receiver is a little too big for the two 2" hitches I have. They rattle around in there like crazy.

Does anyone have a quick fix for this? I am getting a receiver hitch basket to haul some stuff to the beach this weekend and I don't want to listen to that rattle for 3 hours+.

I had some adhesive heat sheild wrap left over from my atv that I thought about wrapping the hitches in to see if that would end the rattle.

I have that little bit of play on my Toyota work truck as well
I just wrap it with a small amount of electrical tape and slide it back in.
The actual problem is the tolerances the Ball mounts are made to.

Electrical tape. Perfect. I am an electrical contractor, should have thought of that one!

I made a shim out of thin aluminum.
I think it's .030 (about 1/32 ")
It's easy to bend around all 4 sides of the ball mount.
Drill 2 holes for the hitch pin to go through , and the pin will hold it in place.

I had the same problem: see this thread:

I bought the clamp that someone suggested and it works well.

All hitches do that. It will be accentuated if your tongue weight is too low. It should be 10-15% of the trailer weight.

I used the same ball mounts in my 2007 Ford Sport Trac and there was no rattling. The fit was much more snug in the receiver, so I wouldn't say they all do that.
