I was only concerned with whether or not MDS was engaged the first time it happened. Reason being that the MDS lifters are fragile little buggers. They're very sensitive to oil quality. Hemi's with MDS run lighter oil than non-MDS to compensate. If someone used the wrong weight or crap oil from a drum you'll be fine for a while, but it usually will result in failure in under 2k miles.

I'd still sughest they check the lifters on that cylinder regarless.

Thanks ... I will mention that to them, both oil changes so far have been done by the dealer. That is good to note though. My hope is it tripped the check engine light this weekend and they have something to go off on Monday..... or give me a different Durango!!!

Just to remind you that a failed lifter will not result in a "random" #3 cyl misfire but in a completely dead cylinder and that if the actuator that controls oil flow to the lifter for MDS operation fails then it does so in the "OPEN" position. Meaning a failure in the MDS system will not leave you in 4 cyl mode. Hope they catch it during data logging.

Latest update .. they replaced the plugs wires on Friday and have not been able to reproduce the check engine light .... blegh. So I will be picking it up after work tomorrow ... I will be happy if this fixes the issue.

Thought they would have swapped coil and wire to another cyl to self check those parts during part one of your fiasco. They have to stop using lot boys to diagnose vehicles. Let us know

Well I am going to give Chrysler Care a call after work to open up a case. Frankly, I am not sure I feel with complete confidence that the issues are resolved. We take the Durango on a lot of road trips and I would hate to have something happen. So I will keep everyone posted! I love the Durango, just not this one

I've seen a ton of hard to diagnose misfire issues in my time relating to the simple issues of spark, fuel and air. This could very well solve your issue they just should have started with them first. My nephews camaro had been to the dealer multiple times with an undiagnosed misfire but they never bothered to test the NEW wires they installed. The initial problem was a plug wire heat shield grounding through the wire elbow. They threw new wires at it and the same cyl misfire was noted so they wanted to tear the motor down. I tested their wires and the #6 wire resistance was off the charts. Swapped it and it's run like a champ ever since. They never refunded him the $150 for "diagnostic" service. Suckers. Anyways hope that does it bro

Well .. it could very well be the thing that solves the issue .. but apparently Chrysler feels that I shouldn't have to deal with the car anymore. They have offered a trade assistance towards another car ... so the saga continues I have an apt this afternoon with the dealership to go through.

I just want to say that both the dealership and Chrysler in general have been a pleasure to work with so far ...
