Default Plasti Dip & Wheels

this is my first time using plasti dip. be kind

i had the polished with gloss black (which i did not want) but only RT around the area with color that i wanted. this is why i decided to give plasti dip a whirl

tips:
  • when i started the temperature was around 55 but it quickly dropped to high 30s/ low 40s (i bring this up because you are better served doing it in warmer weather)
  • be generous when spraying between the wheel and tire
  • keep your distance! otherwise, it will clump up
  • wear gloves, it gets messy
  • initial layer, instead of holding trigger, i would suggest keep "clicking" on it instead. when i was holding the trigger, i tend to over spray
items:
  • 4x cans of plasti dip (only used 2x cans for 4x layers). bought at home depot
  • microfiber rag
  • garbage bag or lots of grocery bags
  • painter's tape
  • can of dust remover
resources: google and

Prep is key! I washed the wheels. dried it the best i can and then went to home depot to get items. when i got back, i used the dust remover to blow the extra water out of the lug nuts and tire valve.

when the wheel is dry, i taped the brakes with painters tape

then i put additional grocery bags to cover brakes and rotors

i took about 10-15 min between each layer. since it was getting colder, it was taking longer and longer to dry

after:

i will be doing it again once it gets warmer. there are a few spots, where its not perfect. also, i was not generous enough between wheel and tire, so i dont have a nice layer to peel off my tire. its thin so its just kind of on there now

let me know what you think or if you have any questions

-Kevin

If you like them that's all that matters.

If you don't like them have them sprayed or powder coated. My 0.02

It's the "IN" thing 40cent! People are using Plastidip on their entire cars, even high end ones.

I plastidipped mine with a dark gray. I like the looks. Holding up after 3 months and have even power washed em. I agree about spraying a plenty on the tire. I didnt and its a pain in the ***.

And to all the naysayers, its not always about money. This is easily removable so when i get tired of this i can peel off and do another color or just stick to the stock color.

The thing is that Plasti Dip is not paint, but rather, a coating. It is pretty durable and withstands just about everything except petroleum products and curb checks. And, if you mess it up, just peel it back and start over. What's more, it can be applied in almost any temperature. I've applied 5 coats to a wheel in under 30 minutes in sub 40 degree weather using a heat gun. In fact, I've found that no matter what the temperature, the heat gun is the way to go.

Ok, but isn't it pretty easy to throw it out of balance ?
