Default Build your own Catch Can for less than $16

Ok Guys, before I get flamed off the site hear me out! I blew my budget for mods this year by blowing up my $1200 clutch in my Camaro SS and I wanted to fix the smoking issue that shows its ugly head only when I seem to have friends ride Ugh. So having the nice pretty anodized aluminum unit still siting in my checkout cart I went to work....... I used a water/air inline filter canister from my local hardware store. It has the right diameter 3/4 hose inlet outlet as our PCV system and comes with a wire mesh filter to boot. Its also hard ABS plastic and is very lite. It can be painted if you so desire and yes I have had this on my vehicle for a hair over 1,000 miles with no smoke and no negative effects.

Water /Air canister $8.99
(2) Lengths of 3/4 inch hose $2.94
(2) Aluminumized threaded hose end caps $.44
(1) 2 1/2 inch exhaust clamp $3.29
(1) Aluminum spacer and a 2 inch bolt and nut $.28

Total $15.94

I used the PCM bolt/ground for the mounting bracket and it holds very strong and is up out of the way. Here is what I caught after 1K miles. It works!!!

i applaud your ingenuity and practicality

its asthetically not as pleasing (doesnt mean its "ugly" looking) but hats off for this write up

how often have you had to dump the oil out? how much have you caught? etc

any other updates?

Yes, not pretty but my friends hadn't noticed it. I had to tell them where it was. I've only had it on for 1,000 miles and caught a few ounces but the unit is a bit larger and at this catch rate it should be good for 7,000+ miles for those that like to change their oil at factory intervals. Time will tell

No worries bro. I know that most of us on here own a D as a family fun hauler and may not ever lift the hood to show off that hemi. This may give them a cheap effective alternative to stopping that smoking issue. I do plan to upgrade to a better unit at some point but for now.... NO MORE SMOKE!

It's not the prettiest thing in the world but if it works, it works!

I also respect that you are living within your means...don't see that very often. A lot of folks you see on forums have tons of mods slapped on a credit card paying 10% interest for Lord knows how long. (Not everyone, but a lot of them, financing rims/tires, hoods, etc.) lol

Been there done that. You guys know, with multiple vehicles and a family you have to spread the available wealth. Not pretty but because it's black plastic it isn't that noticeable. I get a full engine pic up.
